I totally 100% support your right to take as much time as you need to produce the highest quality book you can. I have loved all four of the SOIAF books so far and am content to wait as long as it takes to read ADWD. You rock.

That said - and I may be totally insane to suggest this - maybe one way to get the barking hounds off your back is to authorize some sort of "Worlds of Westeros" short stories or novellas. Sort of like a "Thieves World" thing. Have a variety of authors write short stories set in Westeros that have only a cosmetic relationship to the SOIAF storylines.

This isn't such a huge leap, since you've already approved the SOIAF RPG and, presumably, worked with the gentlemen creating the "Peril at King's Landing" adventure (heck, force RPG guru Nick Logue to actually write a short story or two - he clearly has the talent). Yes, approving other authors' work is yet another distraction, but this could both enrich your world and sate the clamoring denizens of the Interwebs.

That all said, I repeat, you rock and I'll gladly wait as long as it takes.
