Wild Cards Xmas

Spain
Make it a Wild Cards Xmas this year.

Tor informs me that SUICIDE KINGS has been scheduled for release in December.

So this year, stuff Rustbelt, Gardener, Double Helix, the Amazing Bubbles, Jonathan Hive, and the Radical in your stocking.

I agree, the Radical isn't likable, and Captain Trips was awesome.
On the other hand, I'm glad that Mark wasn't just chasing some random fantasy, and that he actually got there. Good for you, Mr. Meadows, you got closure.

I'm more than happy to hear this, but wondered if Tor had any plans to re-issue the original Wild Card books?

I got a question if anyone here can answer it.

I am a big fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, and a big fan of superheroes, so Hey! Why am I not reading Wild Cards? And that's the thing. Since the first few books seem to be out of print, and there seems to be a small mountain of them, is there a good recent jump in point? Are the books pretty much stand alone? I read the Wild Cards comic book that came out a short while ago and I managed to follow it without much trouble and got most of the idea. Are most of the books like that? What I mean is, are they easily accessible without knowing much of what came before, or it would be like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat, waking up in Timbuktu with amnesia and then trying to read A Feast For Crows starting on page 497?

starting WILD CARDS
INSIDE STRAIGHT, the first volume of new triad from Tor, was deliberately designed as a good start point for readers unfamiliar with the previous books. It introduces a whole new cast of characters, the "next generation" of Wild Cards, and can be read and understood without any reference to the first seventeen volumes.

Of course, it's our hope that once you've read it, you'll want to go back and find those earlier volumes as well.

Re: starting WILD CARDS
I hope you're snapping them up. They're all worth a lot more than fifty cents, and some of them -- BLACK TRUMP and DEATH DRAWS FIVE -- have been going for anywhere from $50 to $150 on ebay.

looking for the old books?
I'm constantly asked where to find the older books in the Wild Cards series.

Well, as it happens, I've just noticed that there's a set of the first fifteen up on ebay at

http://cgi.ebay.com/Set-15-Wild-Cards-George-R-R-Martin-inc-Black-Trump_W0QQitemZ290303701508QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Fiction_Books?hash=item290303701508&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Bidding is already up to $91... but that's still a bargain. BLACK TRUMP alone has been known to sell in the vicinity of $80.

Lots of single volumes are also being sold on ebay.

Finally...
I started reading these books. I picked up Inside Straight ysterday and when I put it down I was halfway through with it. I would have finished it all but when I noticed it was midnight I had to hit the sack as I get up at 4AM for work.

When I got to the character and team slogans I was all excited when I saw one of the characters was from Boone, WV because it is five minutes from where I am sitting at work right now. I laughed my butt off when I got to the 'purty little thang' comment because sadly it's pretty close to the way most people around here talk.

I can't wait to finish this one and start getting the rest. I just wish I had started reading them sooner!

Excited but
I am very excited to hear this awesome news, but forgive me if I am very patient to wait till I see another winter. I am going to embrace Spring and Summer and early Fall first.......I am just so sick of snow :)

Thanks for the happy news!
