The Beans Are Spilled

Spain
Well, the first two beans, anyway. There will be many more beans to come.

But HBO has signed a director for the GAME OF THRONES pilot, and the first cast member has come aboard as well.

The pilot will be helmed by Tom McCarthy, director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT.

And playing Tyrion Lannister will be Peter Dinklage, who was almost everyone's "dream casting" for the role (he certainly was mine):

You can read more details in THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, which broke the news this morning:

I'm thrilled.

Things are starting to move a lot faster now. The rest of the year is going to be exciting!

Will he wearing makeup for the role of Tyrion? I think he might be a little too fair of face for the role without it. :P

Hmm would it be cheaper to buy HBO for a couple years or buy the series on DVD?

I'm not sure it's actually fake. I think Dinklage suffers from slight spinal deformity. Back and hip problems are common among dwarfs, as I understand it.

Congratulations (to all of us)!

I'm glad it's a format and channel that will do the source material justice.

Hurm!

Will Peter Dinklage dye his hair blond? He seems great, but the blondness is so tied up with the Lannisterness... it just wouldn't seem quite right if he (and Jamie and Cerci and all) weren't blond...

Wooo, Dinklage. As soon as I saw him in 30 Rock I knew he'd be the perfect Tyrion. On a side note, is it just me or is 'Dinklage' one of the more unfortunate names a midget can have? I'm not trying to mock the guy, but I can't imagine high school going well for him under those conditions.

OMG!

I just got so excited that I had to Thumper tap on my desk to express it. The image is perfect for Tyrion. It will be a much better image in my head than Hoggle from the Labyrinth (I'm 26ish--I grew up wathcing that movie too much).

Considering how excited I know I am, I cannot even begin to image the joy you are feeling right now. Congrats and Thank You.

Congrats again George! That casting is a huge coup for the project.

And for the record, I called it first! I took this picture when Dinklage was on the Daily Show back in late 2003. I had no idea who he was at the time, or how big he was/would get. But I I DID know that if aSoIaF was ever to be filmed, this guy needed to be found and cast as Tyrion.

Wow, Dinklage!

I agree that he's too good looking for the role, really. But this is TV (or HBO anyway) and he'll be great. I loved him Station Agent and Death at a Funeral.

Wow Wow Wow!
Wow, this gets better and better. Super actor for Tyrion and in Tom McCarthy a super director. The Station Agent is a wonderful film, though I haven't seen The Visitor. If you haven't seen it you should check out In Bruges as Peter Dinklage has some brilliantly fuuny (pitch black funny admittedly) scenes. Cannot wait for HBO to come to Belfast and make the pilot.

Re: Wow Wow Wow!
IN BRUGES is indeed a terrific film, but Peter Dinklage is not in it, I'm afraid. That was an actor named Jordan Prentice.

Woohoo!
I'm gonna nerd out completely here and say that since The Wire and Rome have ended, I haven't had a darn thing to watch on T.V. This is so exciting!! Tyrion's my favorite character, and though Michael J. Anderson (Samson from Carnivale) has mismatched legs, he's up there in age. I'm very excited to see Mr. Dinklage's performance, I think he'll be perfect.

To ALL the Martin fans (and Sir), is there a petition to encourage support for a full season that I could pen my name to?

P.S. Is it shallow that the only petition I've ever signed was for a third season of Rome?

Re: Woohoo!
WIRE fans should also be interested in this news since director Tom McCarthy is also an actor, and played journalist Scott Templeton in the final season of that show :-)
