Off to Estonia

Spain
Finncon is fini. Parris and I have just staggereed back to our hotel room from the dead reindeer party. The party is still going strong and we would love to have stayed longer... till sunset, at least... but we have to be up early tomorrow to catch a ferry to Estonia, where I'll be doing a signing in Tallinn. Then the next day it's back across the sea to Helsinki again, just long enough to set off for Turku, where I've got another signing.

Finncon was terrific. The warmth and hospitality we've found here has completely ruined my image of Finland as a frozen wasteland. Who knew? The sauna was fun too. And then there were all the cute anime girls in costume offering free hugs...

Thanks to all my Finnish friends. Now off to Estonia!

We spent a week last summer in Turku and really enjoyed it. I hope you and Parris enjoy Estonia and the rest of your trip!

Frozen wasteland - maybe sometime in the past... In the southern Finland "winter is coming" has, on these times of climate change, turned to a phrase of somewhat optimistic disposition. :P

Sounds just like the type of trip that makes all the work worthwhile. Glad you're both having fun.

I'm glad you enjoyed Finncon! I also hope you enjoy your new hat as much as the previous one. I'm the girl from the second kaffeeklatsch, with the red lipstick, striped shirt and camera, in case you happen to remember - not that likely, though, I'm sure you met more than enogh new people to remember. But hopefully you will visit Finland again, you still have to experience our winter!

Good work on the party. I'm not sure what a dead reindeer party is, but it sounds like something one is usually carried away from, as opposed to staggering, so good job there. Finland sounds like a blast.

It was a pleasure to have such a nice GoHs like you and Parris! I need quite a lot of sleep so not a party person, but glad you had fun. Looks like the weather isn't on your side for the ferry to Tallinn, but we were lucky not to have rain during the con days. Having all those anime people inside would have been impossible!

Hope to see you again - I will start saving for the next European Worldcon!

Glad you had fun in the sauna getting hugs from anime girls. Hopefully a certain "Evil Empire" won't attack Estonia's internets while you're there and you can give us some of your experiences.

Any chance on photos? :)

olde hansa
don't forget to grab a few pints of beer (and an order or roasted bear!) at Olde Hansa in Tallinn!! I went there after performing at a Jazz Festivel in Estonia last December. they serve the best beer i've EVER had anywhere (if you can get over the slightly corny medieval theme decor - though the early music performances were great)

It was interesting to hear your thoughts about the TV series. I'm a big fan of Tyrion(he's my favourite character) and I'm sure Peter Dinklage will do a great job!
Anyway, it was nice to meet you! Good luck with the rest of the series!
Oh, and thanks for the autograph ^_^

I had a blast and it was so great to meet you and Parris. Your reading of the Prologue to Dance with Dragons left me wanting more, of course :P, but it was still awesome to have the actual author read his own story, what a treat!

Nice to know you enjoyed being here! FinnCon was awesome this year. It was wonderful you managed to come this year, it made me giddy and a really big nuisance to everyone else. Thank you again!

BTW, how did you know my hobby is middle-age fencing? You wrote on my book to always keep my sword sharp. *giggles*

And by the way, I was the girl in your sunday coffee...thing (I am sorry, I really can't remember that programs name, some kind of a coffe thing still). I was the one who wpre the gpher t-shirt (the orange one) and tried to find a comfortable position and waved a Bleach (it''s an anime) fan.

And sorry, I am still a bit giddy. But it was so awesome!

Have fun there!
Im sure you will have fun there. Ive been in Estonia last summer visiting Tallinn and Tartu, didnt have time to visit Turku, but both towns were impressive, I even like more Tartu because it is smaller than Tallinn, and probably because its where I spent most time.

I suggest you to eat some typical food of there with their national sauce! Its great! Its called hapukoor if I dont remenber bad.

Have fun!

i think you don't remember it correctly.
i don't know how it's in english, but hapukoor isn't definitely our national sauce :D
and personally, i think hapukoor is disgusting :)

Thank you so much for coming to sign in Turku, meeting you and getting books signed was an endlessly pleasant surprise for me and my sister since we couldn't attend Finncon because of a stupid, stupid flu.

It's also really good to hear that you enjoyed your time in Finland :)
