Coming This December

Just got a peek at the final cover for SUICIDE KINGS, courtesy of the good folks at Tor Books. The art is by Michael Komarck.

SUICIDE KINGS will be the twentieth overall volume in the Wild Cards series, and the third and concluding book in the current "Committee" triad. Written by S.L. Farrell, Ian Tregillis, Melinda M. Snodgrass, Daniel Abraham, Caroline Spector, and Victor Milan, and edited by yours truly.

Awesome. I just finished Busted Flush two days ago and I am so ready for the next one. It doesn't help that I have a crush on Jonathan Hive, of course.

The cover looks gorgeous and dramatic. Happy 20th Book, Wild Cards!

I am new to the whole Wild Cards mythos and recently got INSIDE STRAIGHT. Where does this book fit into the "Committee" triad (if at all)?
Jul. 21st, 2009 05:12 pm (UTC)
INSIDE STRAIGHT is the first book of the Committee triad. The second book is BUSTED FLUSH, now on sale in hardcover. SUICIDE KINGS will be the third and concluding volume of that particular storyline.

We are now working on the twenty-first volume in the Wild Cards series, FORT FREAK, but that one is a stand-alone volume, featuring a different cast of characters.

My first thought... "Wow, one would think that you wrote the entire book! Clever publishers..."

Congratulations George!
Continued success in all things!

Cool cover!
Reminds me of an old Doc Savage book I have floating around here somewhere...

By the way....
As you can probably tell, I'm brand new at this and you are my only friend request. Don't exactly know how this works. If you look closely at my icon you can see me taking the picture of the Lombardi trophy. Took my kids to an open practice 2 years ago. Good luck this season.

Why is your name in a larger font than the title when you didn't write it, and the actual author's name are nowhere to be seen?

Seems a bit, well, meh.

I've never really been a fan of this practice either. I -do- love this series, but the other names involved are kind of purposely shunted aside and it's a shame.

I agree

All of the new Wild Cards and even my old copy of Aces High list George's name and no one else's. Really, it's a marketing ploy since GRRM is an established and well-known author so advertising him will boost sales.

Hell, with this out of the way maybe we'll actually get a book written by GRRM.

Komarck is a god. What I wouldn't do to see him do a bunch of pulp illustrations in this style -- Doc Savage, the Shadow, the Spider, Jetboy...

Can't wait!!
I've been a fan of Wild Cards since I was 14, when the first book came out. After reading Inside Straight and Busted Flush, I've gone back to re-read the original series. I'm up to Aces Abroad, and the books are just as great as I remember...and I remember they keep getting better and better.

I can't wait until Suicide Kings is available. Amazone doesn't list it for pre-order yet, is there any firm release date yet?

Thanks, I'm SO glad the Wild Cards Universe is back!!

20 millionth visitor.
Woo Hoo! I was the 20 millionth visitor to your website. Do I get a prize? If it's a cash prize I'll give half of it back to you so you can redesign your website to look like it was designed sometime after 1996.

Re: 20 millionth visitor.
As an old Marvel fanboy, I'll be glad to give you a no-prize. Those were treasured in my day.

And what's wrong with 1996? That was one great year.

Re: 20 millionth visitor.

I've got to check out those books one of these days. Currently reading Daniel Abraham's The Long Price Quartet. I just started the first book, so that should take a nice chunk of time. But maybe these three Wild Cards books after that.

I'd love to hear any of the series on Audible. Most of my reading lately has been in that format. Any chance of that happening in the near future?

Congratulations :)

Wild Cards related questions
First of all hello from a new fan of the Wild Cards universe.

Didn't know where else to ask and couldn't find anything useful on the net, so here we go:

Whats up with the Comic/Graphic Novel-Series? Am I right in saying that the first 4 issues of this 6 issue run came out monthly in 2008, but that Dabel Brothers needed many many months to deliver the 5th issue and the 6th one still isn't out?
Because was planning on waiting for the collected (preferably hardcover) issue, if that is ever released. Will it be?
And whats up with Dabel Brothers in general? Their website isn't up to date at all... hmmm...

Next question:
When will Tor release a paperback version of the second new novel?
And when will the re-releases of the old novels be available?

And one more thing:
Somewhere it said that you are generally opposed to fan-fiction. Does that also apply to the wild cards universe?

Re: Wild Cards related questions
"The Hard Call" comic series has been delayed, yes, but we still intend to complete it. Daniel Abraham completed the script for the last issue many months ago, but we're still waiting on the art. Eric Battle has been tied up with a project for another publisher, and I have vetoed the idea of using a "fill in" artist to complete the series. The delay is far from ideal, but I'd rather finish the story with the artist who started it.

The graphic novel will follow, but we need issue six first.

Tor will release the paperback of BUSTED FLUSH along about December, I believe, simultaneous with the release of the hardcover of SUICIDE KINGS.

No schedule yet on the reissues. We're adding three new stories to book one, and those are still being written.

I am all in favor of fans writing fiction, but they should invent their own worlds and characters, rather than using mine.
