The Waiting Game

I know, I know. Still no announcement from HBO, alas, and I can't say when and if it will be coming. I know that many of you are going mad with impatience. Me too, actually. Sure, I know who has been cast, but I'm dying to see the reactions.

But we're all going to have to wait. HBO calls the tune. And while we have six roles filled but yet announced, others of equal importance still remain unfilled. HBO may very well be waiting until some of those pieces fall into place before making the next announcement.

Meanwhile, some of you are warm and some are very cold. One of my clues seems to have been puzzled out by many of you, so I will fess up and admit that you're correct -- yes, the line about "small but important" roles refers to two of the children. You will, alas, never get those two. Even if I told you their names, you'd never find 'em. They're not on IMDB, and when you google 'em you get dozens of listings for other people who share their names, but none for the child actors. So they're essentially unknowns... but I have seen their readings, and I think that both of them will be great.

That still leaves four adults you can try to figure out, though. And among the hundreds of theories and guesses, I've seen a couple of you getting it right... or coming close, riding the right theory to the wrong conclusion. So keep at it.

In the absence of an announcement, I'll give you a few more clues. One cast member was played by a puppet. Another has been seen wandering a castle exclaiming about roses. A third is too good to be true. The fourth is the fifth. Esquire thinks one of them is hot.

'Nuff said.

And while you guys are chewing on those, off in London and New York and LA and Dublin, casting continues. They're reading for some smaller parts now: Gared, Ser Rodrik, Maester Luwin, and the like. Even for these "lesser" roles (you know the old chestnut, there are no small roles, only small actors), we're seeing some great readings. David, Dan, and Tom are going to have some tough decisions to make. Me, I'm going out for coffee and a danish.

How you tease
Those are some pretty mind boggling hints. The fourth is the fifth...

If I were to take a stab at that one I would guess someone who has played a role where the number five is related. I.e. Juilan Rhind Tutt played Quartus in Stardust. Or John C. Riely is playing 5 in the upcoming "9".

Re: How you tease
It's Jovovich. She's the fourth, having played the fifth. (element, that is)

Too good to be true? What a wonderfully subjective clue. Until further notice I am assuming Tricia Helfer is Cersei. 8D

Oh man. I am really getting excited to see these people! I hope that the too good to be true is Ron Pearlman as The Hound! Or that guy from 300 as Littlefinger. Who else thinks that whoever they cast for Hodor will either make or break the series?
Aug. 15th, 2009 03:53 am (UTC)
Another has been seen wandering a castle exclaiming about roses.

I have two guesses for this clue: The most obvious option is Claire Danes, who played Juliet in Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. In this case, the clue would be a reference to the balcony scene, though historically, Juliet did not live in a castle.

The more likely option, however, is that Joss Stone, which someone guessed on your previous blind item, is correct. Joss Stone played Anne of Cleves on The Tudors during the third season. The Tudor dynasty was the origin of "The Tudor Rose," because Henry Tudor's coronation marked the end of the War of the Roses. The symbol reflects that by combining the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster.

As far as the puppet is concerned, all I can think of is Gary Coleman, on Avenue Q, but I'm pretty sure this is incorrect.

Ophelia walked around a castle exclaiming about flowers. In the most recent RSC version of "Hamlet", she was played by Mariah Gale.

Mariah! Are you not a boney pop singer?

I'll take a stab at it and say that "the fourth is the fifth" refers to Kate Vernon (the fifth cylon from BSG) and she's playing Cersei.
Aug. 15th, 2009 05:11 am (UTC)
Hmm, I see the logic, but I think she seems a bit too old for Cersei.

Dutch vs. Danish
Evil (yet somehow strangely wonderful) man! I've spent countless hours scouring the web and fiddling with clues. I considered buying IMDB-Pro. I drove my husband insane with conjectures. Just when I decide there were too many variables to go on...you unleash new tantalizing clues demanding investigation! I was getting excited about the Danish clue...but then I looked it up and found that Danish is not the same as Dutch, as I'd thought.
Aug. 15th, 2009 05:44 am (UTC)
Re: Dutch vs. Danish
Wellll if that Danish bit was an actual clue, and I totally overlooked it till your post, then perhaps Scarlett Johannson? She is the daughter of a Danish-born architect and was also named by Esquire as the hottest woman alive in 2006.

And I have no idea where to go with the connection, but GRRM said that "Too good to be true" was a clue in here, and in his last big hint/post his song was listed as "Too good to be true" so I am pretty sure that has to be a clue. Only connection I can find so far are the Everly brothers, but I highly doubt they have anything to do with the new series. Anyone know of any remix's or of another artist using their music?

"The fourth is the fifth" immediately made me think of The Fifth Element, in which Milla Jovovich was the fifth element. I looked her up: Esquire (UK) thinks she's hot.

Holy hell I don't want to get excited over a wrong guess but...could it possibly be Milla Jovovich?!
Aug. 15th, 2009 07:47 am (UTC)
Hmm, Well let's see now...

Milla Jovovich is not a bony pop singer, but she is a pop singer, she has an album called The Divine Comedy. She is the fifth element. And Esquire thinks she's hot.

It is possible.

David Boreanaz is gonna be in it (played by a puppet after all...)?..but then that also leaves a myriad of actors who have all been portrayed as puppets on "Crank Yankers" and other such shows...so it could just as easily be Jack Black...
Aug. 15th, 2009 07:07 am (UTC)
Was James Marsters in the puppet Angel ep? That was my guess.. but it was also one of the references I thought of re: puppets.
