As Ser Jorah Mormont...

... we have Iain Glen, another distinguished British veteran of stage and screen.

Glen has a really great website at http://www.iainglen.com/ Check it out. Not only does he have a list of all his credits, but the site includes clips from many of the film and television roles, so you can get a wonderful sample of his range and talents. I wish more actors had websites this good.

One of his credits was KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, Ridley Scott's marvelous film about the Crusades and the fall of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Nicolaj Coster-Waldau also had a role in that film, hence the "gone to the wars" clue. But Coster-Waldau was not a kingslayer there, which was good for Glen, since he played Richard the Lionhearted. And killing Richard before his time would certainly have changed history. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN was filmed in Morocco... and Glen will be returning to those same locations to shoot the Pentos scenes for our pilot.

Iain Glen also appeared in MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON, co-starring as Speke to Patrick Bergin's Richard Burton. A wonderful performance in a fine film. Of course the character he will be playing in the HBO pilot, Ser Jorah Mormont, has never seen the Mountains of the Moon in Westeros, although the actor has seen the African version.

Like many of the best British actors, Iain Glen is a chameleon who often disappears into his roles. Visit his website and play some of his clips, and you may realize you have seen more of his work than you realize. He won't just play Ser Jorah, he'll BECOME him.

That's Ser Seven, and that's all folks.

For now.

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is a masterpiece if you ask me, and Iain Glen played his part magnificently. Thanks to The Waiting Game I already expected him to be Ser Jorah Mormont, so no suprises here!

Thank you so much for your elaboration on the casting, the choices, your opinions and of course for playing The Waiting Game with us!

It's funny, I just watched "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" again on Ovation network yesterday and I was noticing how good the guy playing Hamlet was in that - only just now did I realize it was Iain Glen. He really was YOUNG then.

Overall, seems like a pretty good cast. The most questionable piece of casting (based on physical looks) still seems to be Mark Addy as Robert. I like Mark Addy, I just don't believe that he could have ever been the most bad ass warrior around, capable of toppling a kingdom and taking it as his own. We'll see.

I really don't see the problem. Robert's a fat, jovial, ineffectual king. The days of badassery are rather distant memories, with Renly much more like the Robert that defeated Rhaegar than the Baratheon who sits the throne. He SHOULDN'T seem like someone who is capable of toppling a kingdom and taking it as his own. In a sense, he never was: I always got the impression that most of the strategy and political maneuvering was done by Eddard and/or John Arryn. Robert took the limelight so that Eddard wouldn't have to.

I am very pleased so far.

IMDB also has Jon, Joffrey and Viserys cast. What about that?

Oh! But you know that..
Nikolaj was only the village sheriff and King Richard did not ride with him to the wars in that movie!!!

You were misleading me with that clue!!!!

(Glad it's over)

He was the baddie in the first Tomb Raider movie! Haha. Nothin', just wanted to put it out there. I like Iain Glen, he's a cool actor and fun to watch on screen.

Mountains of the Moon was fantastic; I own a copy. And I hope you've seen the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven, which is wonderful, unlike the mystifying version that made it to the theater.

A beard really makes the man....

I have a terribly *unusual* question...
A group of your fans are having a little contest where they are making up menus for hypothetical resturants. They really, really need to know more about currency and food prices in Dorn. I kid you not, it does matter. Since you never wrote about it, I thought I would ask you. :)

I love Glen, this is really turning into a stellar cast.

I'm excited!

thank you so much :)

Yes! Ian Glen is fantastic for Mormont. He might have to put on a few pounds, but who knows, makeup could probably get him there without issue.

Morocco for Pentos huh? How fun. Now we just need a production still of Dany next to him. I know the Old Bear won't likely be in the pilot but I'm eager to see who plays Jeor.
