Feeling Guilty

I've met Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner (and their charming moms). They're terrific, bright and beautiful and bursting with enthusiasm, excited to be a part of this.

And now I'm having pangs of guilt about all the horrors that they're going to have to go through in the months and years to come, thanks to me.

I'm going to have to rewrite the books so only nice things happen to Arya and Sansa. Might change the story some.

Also ran into Ron Donachie, Jennfier Ehle, and Kit Harington, and all of them were great The rest of the cast is around here somewhere too, but we haven't bumped into them yet. But I expect we'll meet them all today on set.

Trying to remember you having anything nice happen to anyone in your books......hmmmmm....nope. I just can't think of it. Enjoy the filming.

months and YEARS??
so...by saying "months and years to come" is that a hint that the show has been picked up??!!?? Or, am I reading too much into it?

Re: months and YEARS??
I thought the exact same thing. Let's be honest. HBO would be retarded not to pick this up. It has international marketability. Fans all over the globe. CASH COW potential. It could make the Sopranos look like Charles in Charge.

Will it REALLY
This post really does bring up an interesting question, will it influence your writing? Will meeting the characters in person, actually seeing their faces come to life on screen, will it change the writing?

I don't think it would change the grand plot schemes, but I don't see who it couldn't affect the details, it must be difficult to separate yourself from in order to write objectively.

*phew!* I can finally put my fear of something bad happening to my FAVORITE character (Arya) to rest! :P

But seriously, I know the characters have gone through some serious harsh times, but it's all part off a great story so it's worth it. Although, I have to admit, I'm STILL pissed about Ned- from a story building, writing, drama perspective I totally get it, but emotionally it pains me still :P

Anyway, I DO hope though that at the end of the journey Arya survives...and, OK, MAYBE Sansa too- I've come to like her much better over time ;) it's nice to see she's grown as a person and she's not just the Westeros version of a Stepford Wife

Hello Mr. M - I have never posted to your blog before although I have been an avid reader of it for years, and a fan of Song of Ice and Fire since Game of Thrones was first published. I am an actor who had the pleasure of working with Esme Bianco on 'Burlesque Fairytales' and was v. impressed that the film got a name check on the blog, because it was a real labour of love for all involved. A damn fine story about the meaning of folk myths, it is currently showing at major international festivals worldwide, and you may be interested to know that the cynical fisherman I portray in it for a sizeable part of the last ten minutes of the film took a cue or two from Dolorous Edd. So, what goes around...:)

Hope you have a fantastic time filming!!

Poor things. That'd have to be quite a ret-con, sir. ^_^;;

Still, it's good to see that you have found your Sansa and Arya. Do you have a Joffery?
Oct. 26th, 2009 11:23 pm (UTC)
*laughs* That might change the story just a bit, yes. :D

This is the first time I've posted on your "Not A Blog". I hope that you don't change the story, but if you feel compelled to do so; then I would say just censor the parts a little bit. I just feel like the stories are so perfect that I can't imagine anything else. Also, I am very excited to see the pilot, and will be ordering HBO specifically for it. Looking forward to the release of A Dance With Dragons, and the showing of the HBO series. I am sure they will be great! Also, if you wanted to watch football, then you should think about getting a sling box on your TV at home. This way you can watch what you want on your laptop.

Arya has gone too far to come back...but that's a good thing.

I can't believe shooting has finally begun! Cool.

The only thing I ask is for you to somehow give Arya Nymeria back.

Is that too much? =P

You know I have to say: "adorable" isn't generally a word I'd use to describe my understanding of who and how you are, but what you just wrote about those two girls... Oh I laughed! An adorable reaction. Truly. :)

I just picked up Vol 1,2 of "Dreamsongs" at the bookstore yesterday. I'm excited! :D

It's ok if nice things happen to Arya, but I don't know about Sansa.

However welcome to your reader's world! My goodness all the horrible things that happen to the characters I like! ;-) I keep hoping for a happy ending of some sort, but I don't expect one.

You write a bleak world sir, I eagerly await the next installment.
