Feeling Guilty

I've met Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner (and their charming moms). They're terrific, bright and beautiful and bursting with enthusiasm, excited to be a part of this.

And now I'm having pangs of guilt about all the horrors that they're going to have to go through in the months and years to come, thanks to me.

I'm going to have to rewrite the books so only nice things happen to Arya and Sansa. Might change the story some.

Also ran into Ron Donachie, Jennfier Ehle, and Kit Harington, and all of them were great The rest of the cast is around here somewhere too, but we haven't bumped into them yet. But I expect we'll meet them all today on set.

Egyptians
as the ancient Egyptians were fond of saying, "Holy crap this is exciting!!"

oh and i don't know if this is a possibility but will you be able to share any photos of on-set happenings, like set designs, costumes, that sort of thing? just thought I'd ask.

Could you try to persuade the actors that we're not at all scary, and would love very much to meet them at the Belfast signing and moot? I would absolutely adore meeting our Catelyn and Ned and Jaime and Tyrion...

Disbelief
Today I was reading about the filming of Game of Thrones. I was very excited. So, I said to my friend, "The best thing to ever happen to about to happen!" And he responds by saying, "What are they making a live action Smurfs?" And he was serious!

So, Geroge.... When you finish the first Game of Thrones season, you mind throwing together a quick Smurfs script? My buddy would really apreciate it.

New Fan
I haven't been this excited about a book series going to television or movie since I found out about LOTR hitting the big screen with cast members like Sir Ian McKellen. Having gone over your cast list, I am quite certain that the quality of your novels, combined with your screenplay experience and the terrific casting so far will get this series picked up. HBO has to see the incredible potential. Safe travels, George.

stay strong
If Ned and Rob Stark can be butchered anyone can go. I have to say that those two moments are the most shocking and brilliant ones that I have ever experienced in reading a novel. Truly these books are on another level. My favorite author by far is GRRM. Wow I just got off on a huge tangent. My point is simply this stay true to your writing style quite simply it's the best.

Please don't rewrite Arya and Sansa, they become the characters they are from experience, life is hard and it sucks most of the time. This is what makes us strong, even if vulnerable. :)

I really like the character development so far. Sansa is finally beginning to learn that life is not a song indeed and Arya is just bloodthirsty which I love - especially with her being bullied by Sansa all this time and now she's joined the faceless men and is free from all the trouble of courtly marriage etc unlike her sister. She's truly independent.

I can't make it to Belfast much to my dismay (as medieval essays are due) but I hope you have a lovely time over there. (Come to Glasgow for signings, that would be awesome)

About Arya and Sansa having only nice things happen.
Another pretty good writer, Joss Whedon, says that what the audience wants and what the audience needs are two different things. And what Joss means, of course, is the audience wants good things for the characters, but needs the bad things to happen. Otherwise, it's just boring. And the evil GRRM is most fully aware of this. Thank goodness.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..............

Hmm on the either side...I am sure that your readers are "dying" to read a book where all the world is cute and we all live in shangri-la...oh wait, isn't a zillion ton of that available? And its called trash? I suppose I can say with a fair amount of certainty: your readers want mind-boggling stories that captivate their intellect and most certainly not: predictable happy ends!

As far as I see it..
Only good things have happened to Arya on her rise to being a bad ass. Sansa is perhaps my least favorite character though. She's such a weak point of the story that I'm surprised she gets her own chapters. If she had a mind of her own it might make sense to give her her own chapters. She could've redeemed herself with Tyrion but no, she deserves everything she's gotten ;)

Re: As far as I see it...spoilers alert!
Actually, Sansa is growing, but her strategy is vastly different from Arya's. She is indeed hiding behind a lady's armor. As long as she walks in the exact steps dictated by etiquette, her captors have no excuse to kill her.

Imagine trying to not show any emotions as you are shown your own father's head on a pike by his killer who is also your captor. Hers is the bravery of the girl in the well in "Silence of the Lambs".

Not everyone can take on an aggressive role. For Sansa diplomacy and politeness in the face of fear, horror, and death is the only thing she has been trained for. I had rather hoped she would redeem the Hound. Tyrion would have been good too, but perhaps Tyrion will seek out his lost love. I'm sure we will be surprised and pleased with the final outcome!
