Off Season

Like rust, the NFL never sleeps.

The offseason is already in full swing, and the Jets just acquired Antonio Cromartie from the Chargers for a third-round draft pick... in 2011! Wow. Sounds like a great deal to me. Cromartie is a first round talent, led the league in interceptions just a few years ago. And paired with Darrell Revis, he'll give Gang Green the best CB tandem in the league... which should make our #1 ranked defense even better. (We'll get Kris Jenkins back as well).

Hey, maybe nobody will EVER score on us next season.

So now all we need is a stud pass-rusher and sack artist. Oh, Vernon Gholston, won't you please show up to play one day???

AND the Pats did not get Peppers.

Win-Win for the evil Jets.

Good luck with Cro...
I'm not to bummed about the Chargers getting rid of Cromartie. Antoine Cason is just as capable and not nearly the nuisance as Cromartie became. Don't get me wrong, Cro is surely a superb athlete and seems like a nice guy (I met him in a grocery store a cuople of months ago-he wasn't a jerk) but he will have you cursing the television halfway through next season with all his arm tackles, whiffs, and attempts at int's, when he should just be trying to make a tackle. That play in the Jets-Chargers playoff game; when he froze like a statue as Shonn Greene ran right by him for essentialy the game winning td, was not an abaration. That's what he always did here, like he was afraid of putting a lick on anyone.

Ohhh yeah...I didn't mention his off the field issues but I'm sure you've heard of a few of his exploits. Dude's got more bastards than Tom o' Sevens.

Maybe a change of scenery will serve him and your Jets well. Maybe, maybe not.

Re: Good luck with Cro...
Another Nole on the Jets, I might have to start rooting for them. Cromartie is a sick athlete when he is healthy. Only played 1 year in college and was still a 1st round pick. Noles had 5 defensive players in the first round that year.

Hey George can you please finish this book?

And my Lions got off to a roaring start. Jim Schwartz was knocking on Vanden Bosch's door at exactly midnight at wouldn't leave until they signed a deal. Questionable? Maybe. Effective? Hell yes.

The book on Cromatie is that he's more of an athlete than a player - he gambles, gets by on athleticism rather than smarts, and that his gambling leads to being burned (as well as interceptions.)

The Chargers aren't dumb.

I think the Jets are in prime position to own the AFC East next season.

I don't think you'll hold teams scoreless all year though, I'm pretty sure Peyton Manning killed your secondary in the post season.

"And paired with Darrell Revis, he'll give Gang Green the best CB tandem in the league..."

Pairing Maester Luwin with Darrell Revis would give the Jets the second best CB tandem in the league!

He is a huge upgrade over sheppard. And with Ryan's coaching he will learn to play the position. Great move go jets!

I think even LT has given up on Gholston. Hopefully Ryan can bring out the best in Cromartie. Run D still needs shoring up.

We won't be very active in free agency this year due to the lack of a CBA. Because of the lack of an agreement in place this offseason the "Final 4" teams have big limits on the number of FAs they can sign, and the $$ they can offer. I do hope Sharper comes back (9 INTS this year, 3 pick 6's!!).

I'm looking for most of the 13 tendered RFAs to be resigned except for Left Tackle. We have 3 quality guys and one will likely be traded for draft pick(s).

But I expect our GM (Mickey Loomis) to do very well in the draft - that's how we'll reload for the repeat!!!

Good luck to the Jets and Giants - I follow both NY teams - gotta support our homeboy Eli!!

For years I second guessed and would yell and scream at our front office. (trading up for a #&*^#*&^ Punter?!?)

Yeah. Loomis earned my trust now. Pierre? Colston? Meachem? Morestead? Yeah. Ok. Do whatever you guys need to do. I'll sit in the dome patiently awaiting.

Neil Young fan
Maybe I'm a pillock, but I'm going to imply here; judging by your title George, are you a Neil Young fan?

American rugby
It is almost as if the NFL and all it's players are characters in the books.
And characters like Tywin are the evil coaches of the teams.

Why don't the G-Men ever make a big signing? I'm not asking them to become the NY Yankees or anything, but they never seem to make a big splash. Our biggest signing of the last 10 years was Eli, and although he'll live in my heart forever as a Super Bowl hero alongside Tyree of course, he's not exactly one to get the blood pumping.
Mar. 6th, 2010 06:34 pm (UTC)
Come on, George! Let's talk about the Giants signing Antrel Rolle! If Kenny Phillips comes back healthy, the G-Men will have the best safety tandem in the league.

Only seven more months of darkness until the 2010 season begins ...
Mar. 6th, 2010 10:28 pm (UTC)
Cromartie is a good player. I'm really surprised they got him that cheap.
Mar. 7th, 2010 08:31 pm (UTC)
The Jets should be arrested
for grand theft cornerback. Your guys stole one that time. And this is also why the Chargers will never win the big one.
Mar. 8th, 2010 05:24 am (UTC)
Meanwhile my beloved Dolphins have picked up Mike Nolan as DC, Karlos Dansby at ILB and look to probably have Ryan Clark signed at safety as of tomorrow. The Jets are in for a war in the AFCE this year. :)

Cro deal
I see this as San Diego being tired of dealing with his issues and realizing he needed a major wake-up call. For the Jets, it's a chance they almost have to take. Major upside and even if he just plays the way he did last year it is an upgrade. Well worth the price.

For San Diego, it is addition by subtraction. A.J. decided that Cro wasn't gonna change as long as he was in town, so he figures he'll get what he can and even if Cromartie turns in a Pro Bowl season in NY, he wouldn't have done it without the slap to his ego.
