and another

The old maester has lived many lives, brief but numerous. In his youth he fought in the wars that some say inspired all of this. He has been a king and a god, but he'll always be daddy to me.

probably not. I will say now though, that Liam Neeson was my hope for Eddard. I can't think of anyone Id rather play Ned.

Roy Dotrice
really does seem like the perfect fit, and I am sure GRRM knows him from his Beauty and the Beast writing days. The familiarity explains the hint "but he'll always be daddy to me."

But hey, did anyone ever notice how the second season of Dark Angel was a rip off of Beauty and the Beast? The character of Joshua, searching for his father, even looked like Vincent!

Is old Roy up to it at his age (87)? He has not done any tv/movie work since 2008...

Re: Roy Dotrice
Not just the familiarity but his charcter's name in that was "Father". Everything else seems to fit as well, just check out his imdb.

What, no Bond references?
Father William of Baskerville = Daddy
Juan Sanchez Villa Lobos Ramirez = Immortal/God
Take your pick of Kings

Sean Connery!

You're all not thinking outside the box here....

"The old maester has lived many lives, brief but numerous"

Is clearly a reference to Maester Aemon being played by none other than.....Scott Bakula!

And I for one applaud this creative casting choice.

The first tip leads me to quantum leap and nothing else.

So it could be Scott Bakula but...why not...Dean Stockwell!

He's still an active actor with an impressive career record and he should perfectly fit the role.

"The old maester has lived many lives, brief but numerous"

My immediate thought on reading that was that it might be a 'Doctor Who' reference, given his regular regenerations.

It has to be Roy Dotrice. He starred in a play called Brief Lives. The only question is whether he'll play Aemon or Pycelle. I'm guessing Aemon.

Maester
Who other than Roy Dotrice!!!! I don't care what role they give him, but he needs to be in this production. The Maester is perfect, though.

I concur it has to be Roy Dotrice. And while he may always be "daddy" to George, he'll always be the evil, PERVERTED! French nobleman from Cheech and Chong's Corsican Brothers!

"Whip me!!!" lol
