Another GOT Hire

Everyone is all in a frenzy for casting news, I know, I know... but it takes a lot of talent to make quality television and film, and not all of that talent is in front of the cameras.

David Benioff and Dan Weiss and the good folks at HBO have been assembling a terrific team for GAME OF THRONES. I thought you all might like to hear about one of the latest hires come aboard -- world-class makeup artist PAUL ENGELEN has signed up to do the hair and makeup design for our series.

You may or may not have heard of Mr. Engelen before, but if you've seen a TV show or a film in the last couple of decades, you have certainly seen his work. His credits include Ridley Scott's recent ROBIN HOOD, Narnia, CASINO ROYALE, V FOR VENDETTA, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, TROY, GLADIATOR, James Bond, Tarzan, A FISH CALLED WANDA, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS... oh, and something called STAR WARS too.

Oh, and he's been nominated twice for the Academy Award for best makeup, and five times for a BAFTA. Won one of the latter, too.

He's a exciting addition to the GAME OF THRONES team, and we're all thrilled to have him on board.

Quality work always rocks. He'll get just the right amount of grit and grime, plus some cultural groomings I'm sure will look great.

That's awesome news! I am really looking forward to seeing the actors transform into the characters. I'm especially curious to see how they go with the white Targaryen hair.

Just keeps getting better and better...

Eep, that's really awesome! Because good the make up and hairdressers make terrific-looking actors and certainly give a "tone" to the serie that can be unique.

I've also been happy about the castle, but can't comment much until I see it on screen, I guess XD

Great news, I don't envy the guy...I hope he's good with scars and sword-wounds.

Not really on topic...
But great to see the set crew will be talented too. You mention Mr. Engelen's work on Star Wars last... as if to dangle the big carrot in front of us all. Thusly, I assume you have a facination for Star Wars. I was wondering what your opinion of the Prequel trilogy is vs. the Original trilogy. You know, stuff like metaclortients vs. The Force as a spiritual power. The excitement of the rebellion vs. the tedium of intergalactic trade boycotts. Do you ever share your opinions on these things, and in great detail? I for one would love to read your insight. (You critiqued the Tudors, and in particular Jonathan Rhys Myers very astutely and it seemed you did not hold your punches).

Yes, I am looking for something juicy, and hopefully scathing, regarding the prequel trilogy.

Fantastic news!

It's no Tywin announcement, but that guy has one impressive resume!

Now that's really amazing! I can't WAAAIIIT.

And because I wouldn't feel right if I didn't mention it...I'm growing old waiting for that book. :P I've had it reserved on Amazon.com now for TWO YEARS!!!

I just *know* the Hound will look great with the red-black Sith tattoos. Get the hairdresser from Star Wars too so you can give Cersei the Cinnamon Bun and we're set.

That's great news! When your favorite books goes on film/TV you're always worrying about the quality of it all... now there's no need to worry about poor make up at least! ;) :)

Welly, welly, well... the answer is Dim from A Clockwork Orange.

He's not known for being bright, since they call him Dim.

The dressed in white is self-explanatory, if you have seen the movie and the iconic outfits they wear for committing a little of the ultra-violence.

And lastly, he went from being in a gang to serving on the police force.

Sorry for being off topic, but it just came to me who your other new hire, Kristian Nairn, reminds me of. Since your fans seem to enjoy riddles, let's see how quick they get this one.

He's not know for being bright.
But he likes to go out at night, dressed in white.
Went from being on the wrong side of the law to serving on the right.

Be back with the answer in a few days if nobody gets it.

casting couch
Just took my turn on the couch, more of a chair really. Belfast was fun, and sunny which is rare for Ireland, and hope to be back soon as third beardy man on the left.

Excellent track record!
I'm really excited to have someone of that caliber on board!
