Fantasy Flight Times Two

The boys and girls at Fantasy Flight Games have really been kicking ass lately. Two new Ice & Fire releases are either in the stores or on the way.

First, there's BATTLES OF WESTEROS, a brand new -- well, I don't know, would you call it a board game, a miniatures game, a war game? -- whatever it is, it looks great. Based on the BattleLore system that FFG acquired. Fight your own Stark/ Lannister wars.

I've just received my own copies of this one. FFG has done a bang-up job, as always. The games should be in your favorite neighborhood game shop now. If not, hey, find a new favorite neighborhood game shop.

For more info on BATTLES OF WESTEROS, check out their website at:

Meanwhile, on other fronts, Fantasy Flight is also preparing to release a second edition of their art book, THE ART OF GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE (whew). The first edition was a big hit a few years back, but has been out of print and unavailble for some time. We've added some new art, replaced some old art (but kept most of the great stuff from the first edition, natch) freshened up the design, and FFG will soon be re-releasing the book for all those of you who missed the first one.

The art book should be available this summer from FFG, Amazon, or your local bookstore.

And... even better... FFG is now putting together a SECOND art book, with all new Ice & Fire artwork from their stable of kickass illustrators. More on that later.

Maester Luwin
I bought the art book when it first came out a few years ago. It really has some beautiful paintings.

After seeing the painting of Maester Luwin, I've had this mental image of Patrick Bauchau as the actor portraying him (it's almost as if the artist used him as a model). I see that Donald Sumpter has been cast so the point is moot, I just wanted to post it. :)

Frickin sweet!
I've heard nothing but good things about that BattleLore game, I might have to actually put up and buy it now.

Very, very excited
Particularly about the art-books (I admit to being partial, since my husband is one of the illustrators working with FFG).

It's great to see the franchise is doing so well, here is to even more and better things to come, ser (with the TV series in the making I've no doubt about it).

I cannot wait for that art book! Obtaining the first edition at a reasonable price is not very easy. Please keep us posted on the release date!

Heading out to buy Game
Heading out to find a copy now.

From company info looks to be an improvement on Richard Borg's old Battle Lore system. Have managed to get copy of rules already.

Hope to find some opponents at upcoming Historicon which will also see my Night Watch Army take on all comers in the Hordes of the Things tournament. (Unless I finish the Lannisters first).

art book
Hey George,
Is the new art book along the same lines as the limited edition artbooks that were for sale a couple years ago? I really enjoyed that art book and would like to purchase a limited edition one of the new ones if such a product is available.

Thanks for the great work,

I used to own a game store, own all the BattleLore rule system games (including all the version prior to it being called BattleLore, and went out and grabbed this one.

I'd say my only criticism of their production of the game is that their version of The Mountain doesn't ride...

I hear tell you're a fan of toy soldiers, Mr. Martin. FFG's pieces are always evocative and well sculpted for a board game, so much so that many fans of the games paint them. The games themselves are of the highest quality, as are the rules. I look forward to the playing Westeros.

Holy Monet!
I'm getting that art book. Years ago I searched for one that was out of print, but this is my golden ticket. The artists who have contributed to your world are phenomenal, so this is gonna be an automatic hit to my wallet. :)
