Nailed It

Damn, you guys are good.

Yes, you got it. The third and final part I hinted at is the Old Bear, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, and the actor playing him is the fabulous James Cosmo.

I knew that I referenced BRAVEHEART or TROY or any of his other numerous film credits, you folks would use IMDB and ferret him out in seconds, so I went all the way to my childhood as a funny book fan for a clue -- a short-lived comic that lasted only six issues half a century ago, called COSMO THE MERRY MARTIAN.

Cosmo was published by Archie Comics, hence the "jugheads" reference in my last post.

As for James Cosmo, well, he really doesn't need much in the way of introduction.

I wish I could show you his audition. He blew away a dozen other strong contenders, including some very fine actors and household names. He will be an AMAZING Old Bear.

And that's it for Froggy's clues for now.

But brace for a big announcement from HBO, with lots more names.

So, pretty much every post you've had about the HBO Game of Thrones series reads like this:

"This show is going to be awesome. Here is another awesome person who is joining the show, and is pretty much perfectly cast. Did I mention this show is going to be awesome? Well, it is going to be awesome."

I am so ridiculously excited for this show. I'm going to have to read A Game of Thrones a third time in preparation.

absolutely, i agree.

By the way, this is going to be awesome.
And then, some day, we´ll be excited with the series, and this actor, and that actress, and finally, pum, the book is done.

And, well.. i mean, that is going to be awesome too. I just can´t wait.

Presuming the series comes out on DVD, audition clips would make a fine extra bit to have.

I know, horses and carts, but still...just sayin'.

The casting continues to please...

I'm a huge fan of Mr Cosmo, who's a bit of a fixture in Glasgow's west end. Let me know if you make it over here, and I'll buy you a single malt to say thanks for The Turtle (he'll, maybe even a double single malt).

"I wish I could show you his audition"
George, can you convince HBO to put the auditions on the disk set?
Jul. 16th, 2010 08:54 pm (UTC)
George, I did not think anything could top the Aiden Gillen casting, but this does it. I freaking love James Cosmo. He will be absolutely perfect as the Old Bear, a role (as you can imagine) close to my heart. I am de-fuckin'-lighted. :D

Jebesus, he looks perfect for the role.

What an awesome choice. I can't wait to see him in the role.

When I first read this series years ago, James Cosmo is the actor who played Jeor Mormont in my mind. Awesome.

Good god, it's like he was born and specially aged in a cask for this one particular role. Very nice.

I wish we could see ALL the auditions, as well. I understand that is unrealistic, but maybe they can put some of them on the DVD Series Box Set when it comes out. *crosses fingers*

Even I haven't seen all the auditions. There are hundreds of them, you realize? Sometimes as many as two dozen just for a single part.

すばらしい!OMG James Cosmo as the old bear, just amazing!!!
Jul. 17th, 2010 07:07 am (UTC)
Damn, you guys have hit every nail perfectly on the head for every actor cast so far, if the way I see the characters in my mind is anything to go by! LOL! Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Great actor! And he's just the way I pictured Jeor Mormont; old bearded man(refering to his role of Galder Weatherwax) with tall, strong stature. It's no wonder he nailed it. :D
Jul. 17th, 2010 09:56 pm (UTC)
Mr. Morris Gerald Cafferty himself?! I usually don't put actors to characters when I'm reading, but the Old Bear is locked down now. Inspired choice.
