Snowbound

Falling way behind here on LiveJournal, I know. I've got lots more parts and actors to talk about, the RTS game to announce, the Eenie Awards....

Snowing heavily in Santa Fe, however, and I've been on a bit of a roll. I'll get to all that other stuff when I can. Kong comes first.

Pat's just died. A quick death, but a messy one. Ugly, painful, humiliating. But hey, he earned it.

Off I go to shovel Snow.

Was reading the fantastically wonderful NESFA collection of Roger Zelazney's short fiction and I noticed that you were a bit of a chess player back in the day - do you still play? Am I liable to see you on FICS (the Free Internet Chess Server) sometime?

28 Celsius in Santa Fe
So the snow must be an (obvious) metaphor.

Put away the shovel George. Get a Snow Blower. Blow the Horn of Winter and bring that wall of ice down.

Re: 28 Celsius in Santa Fe
Especially since he capitalized "Snow." If it weren't for Jon, I'd take it to mean snowing in hell, meaning the knot was finally coming undone.

Pat will be pleased to hear that :-)

I'm going to guess he inadvertantly got trodden on by a rampaging mammoth.

Thank you mr Martin, we could use some Snow also in Italy... 40 celsius degrees and nothing but Snow to dream of (and with him who cares about hot weather?)

He was not in the least bit scared
To be mashed into a pulp.
Or to have his eyes gouged out,
And his elbows broken.
To have his kneecaps split
And his body burned away,
And his limbs all hacked and mangled
Brave Ser Patrick.

His head smashed in
And his heart cut out
And his liver removed
And his bowls unplugged
And his nostrils raped
And his bottom burnt off
And his pen--

When danger turned it's ugly head,
he quickly turned his tail and fled.
Brave, brave, brave, Brave Ser Pat.

The Snows of Catamere ?
I am rereading AGOT in Philly where there is yet ANOTHER heatwave. I wish I lived in Winterfell. But although snow in PA would be nice, snow in NM is even better. Winter is Coming!

Sad that i actually googled to check if it is snowing in Santa Fe. It is not:-)
Every few months I get a fix of the white stuff that you have been shovelling. Very addictive stuff. Methinks more of this will be on the market soon. Hurrah!

I feel wet snow
on my warm, soft skin.
It is this dark place
that I want to be in.
Then I open my eyes
and it all floats away,
As bright warm sun shines
on a brand new day.
Window panes covered
in sparkling frost,
reminds me of a beautiful thing
I have lost. (Ellen Pond)

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;

And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter

Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,

Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place

For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is. (Wallace Stevens)
