Home Again

Back in Santa Fe. Still sick, but feeling much better than I did. Digging through mail and catching up on football.

Today I watched the Jets loss to the Ravens (pathetic offense, and though the D looked great in spots, they could not seem to get off the field on third down) and the Jets win over the Patriots (terrific). Was that really that same team? Sanchez looked wretched against Baltimore and great against New England. And Tomlinson appears to have some legs left after all.

Next up in the Manning Bowl. We'll try to squeeze that in tomorrow, before the Sunday games.

The amount of mail and packages that have arrived in my absence is truly terrifying.

Hope you feel better soon. Wish I could stay home from work tomorrow: they're actually showing the Jets/Dolphins game live here!

LT does look good. He also looked very good on the preseason.
You might be interested in watching Hard Knocks, an HBO series that follows a team through their preseason. This year they followed the Jets. While I am not a Jets fan, I root for them now because of the show (although I won't root for them when they play the teams I love: Colts and Lions).

1 + 1
As an avid football fan and renowned fantasy writer, it is only logical that you join a fantasy football league next year. I run such a league and would welcome a player with your passion for the game. And think about it, due to the current prestige of both New York football teams, you could create the Giant Jets hybrid team.

I hope you feel better...
And that leads to some quality King Kong wrestling. Seriously, feel better.

Glad to hear that you're finally home and feeling better. And thanks for taking the time to give us an update.

I'd say that the Jets turned out to be one of the definite benefits of your having been out of the country, as you were able to see them bounce back immediately and thereby skipped a week of dwelling on that first game. Only a couple of more hours until the game this evening, hopefully you can relax and enjoy it.

Just rest, George, please.

I know that many of us, thirsty readers, are many times a pain in the ass.

But that's because we´re not seeing the big picture. And the big picture is life. Live life as good as the life lets you.

So rest, enjoy and, when you feel the mood, write.

But write is love. And love cannot be a pennance.

From Spain, with great love to you of a fan that owes you, and some others like you, seing published his first novel with only 25.

Thanks, master.

From Hodgman re Jets

This is your grateful reader from television.

I did not realize that you enjoyed the jets. I am interviewing Nick Mangold on Tuesday for a pilot talk show I am filming for our friends, HBO. The talk show will have a different theme each episode. The theme this episode is "nerds vs jocks". I represent the nerd. I only write to say that if you have a question for Mr Mangold, or a comment about the intersection between fantasy and football, I'd be honored to pass it along. Many thanks, Hodgman@littlegraybooks.com

Indecent Proposal
How much would someone have to pay you to be a Buffalo Bills fan? You can like other teams, but have to like the Bills the most. Everyone has their price.

Tyrion Lannister in a Pats' Uni?
In the parlance of talk-radio, first time caller, long time listener... regardless, you may have won the battle, but the war is far from over,

Willing to bet that sexy Rexy (who anyone would have to admit was entertaining as hell on Hard Knocks) will live to regret cutting this little pin-ball wizard.

Here's to Woodhead running roughshod over the Jets in week 13! ;)

PS: I sort of felt like the guy from "Big Fan" writing this... so I figured I'd give a shout out. If you haven't watched it, you should! Indepently produced film about football fandom that is equal parts disturbing and hilarious, staring Patton Oswald...

Seroiusly though, BIG FAN of the SoIaF books... an even bigger fan of Dunk and Egg. Hoping we see the next chapter in the SoIaF... and following the smashing success of the first season of AGoT, the first Dunk and Egg MOVIE!

Excelsior! ... and Go Pats!

Glad you're feeling better! Good luck wading through all that mail.

I just caught a glimpse of Ned and Theon on HBO in one of the 'Coming Soon' trailers and started shrieking, so I'm fully expecting the cops to arrive at any minute. I guess I haven't been paying attention as of late...I had no idea it was being advertised on TV yet!

You root for the wrong teams, George, but I must admit, you are one true fan! I can DVR my Cowboys and watch the game later in the day, but I'm probably not watching it the following day and I certainly ain't watching it a week (or two or three weeks) later! Unless it's one of those classic replays on the NFL network . . . I could watch replays of games from the '90s (or '70s) all day long.
