... for a day.

Tomorrow it's off to Minnesota for the Days of Ice and Fire.

I am combining three days into one today. The day when I return from a long trip, relax, pet the cats, watch football, and savor being home again... the day after that, when I contemplate the piles of mail, bills, boxes, and the hundreds of emails and start feeling overwhelmed... and the day before I leave on a trip, when I run around in a mad panic trying to get ready, certain that I am about to forget something important.

After Minnesota, though, I'll be home for the holidays... and, I hope, able to get a lot of solid work done. That's the plan, in any case.

Minnesotans... do NOT talk to me about NFL football at Days of Ice and Fire. All my games are on TIVO, but I haven't had the chance to watch any yet.

Welcome home! Were I closer, I'd bring over a batch of my homemade vegetable beef soup :) May your day at home bring you the rest and revitalization that you need, and safe journeys!

The way you've been running around lately I think I'd be happy if you came back from Minnesota and did a just a little solid work, or a lot of light work. At least until after Christmas. Then some solid work until tax time. ;}

Comin' to Minneapolis?
Would like to come and see you while you are in the cities good sir, but unfortunately going to see you isn't a legitimate excuse to miss an Organic Chemistry Exam. In any case hope you enjoy the Twin Cities while the weather is still reasonably mild

Days of Ice and Fire
I forgot to pre-register. Any chance you know how much it costs at the door or if you can get a weekend pass? Can't wait to see you again!

Let me know...

I have tons of family in and around Minneapolis. If you need anything at all, or a break from the madness while you're there, let me know and I'll make it happen. Safe travels :)

Luckily I read about your trip here a few weeks back so I had a little time to plan. I hope to make it out there on Saturday. I should have a chance. For anyone wondering, I talked to a guy at the Event Center where it's being held and it's $25 to get in for the whole weekend. I hope to get a chance to see you there. I don't remember you being in this part of the country for the few years I've been checking out your site.

Poland next year!
I just read that you are going to visit Poland next year in June. Great! I must be there ...

Love your writing
Hope your trip was productive. Not asking for any response really... just communicating general bewilderment... I just don't know why you can't say no to different events in order to stay home more. Maybe truly impossible, or maybe you just want to do all these things, but me... I'd find a way to minimize all of it. To each there own I guess. Life's too short if I ask me.

Re: Love your writing
You would be surprised at how many events I do say "no" to, I think. At least three times as many as I accept.

Please realize that my appearances are often booked three or four years in advance. Right now I am considering a half dozen different invitations for 2013 and 2014. I suppose I could just turn them all down, on the grounds that I might be in the middle of the next book by those dates in 2014... but I am not willing to give up all travel and convention appearances, nor do I think the vast majority of my readers would want me to. The fans I meet at these events certainly seem pleased that I am there.

Nor will I cancel out on a convention I booked three years previous at the last moment. That would not be fair to the con organizers, who have likely been promoting their event for some time. I have from time to time been forced to back out of a scheduled event because of sickness or a death in the family... but if I back out because I have a book to write... well, you know, I am ALWAYS going to have a book to write. This year, next year, ten years from now, there will always be a current project or three.

Pity I won't be able to make it to the Days of Ice and Fire event.
At any rate, hope you have a safe flight to Minny and back!
Cheers to you and Parris for getting home safe from Europe, though
Kong isn't going anywhere, but you'll certainly slay him soon! :)

Better yet, maybe we'll see news of WildCards!
Either would be great, of course, as a longtime fan of your work.
Anyways, hope this trip helps you to recharge the batteries...
Take your time and do it right, is what I say! :)

Just don't rush out anything less than your best effort.
Eat lots of *American* pizza, too, not that European crud.
Take the time to relax with the cats and enjoy the holidays...

It is admirable...
that you take the time to go through all the mail you get... but at some point, isn't it too much?

I may have e-mailed you once or twice at the at the turn of the millennium, but I would not dare to waste your time with such now. (somehow, this LJ not a blog does not seem the same... probably because it is more of a group discussion than a 1 on 1).

Met you today at Days of Ice and Fire (First evening!) and you were so nice to everyone there despite how Jet Lagged you must be. We Minnesotans certainly do appreciate you coming all the way out here to visit us. Thanks for signing my card and talking to me briefly about Conan/Gregor and Kristian/Hodor. Such fun to finally meet the man behind all of the stories and characters!

See you again for your reading tomorrow morning.
