First Look

All of you waiting eagerly for every tidbit of news about the HBO series of GAME OF THRONES, be sure not to miss this week's issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, which features a "first look" at the show, with ten exclusive photographs from the set.

The issue is now on sale across the nation at newsstands and bookstores. But grab a copy soon, it may not be there long.

Be warned, the text does contain spoilers for those who have not read the book.

The EW website also features some of same pix at
so check that out as well. However, the print edition of the magazine includes some extra pictures that the website does not.

Hope you all enjoy your "set visits" as much as I enjoyed mine.

A GoT Week
This has been a great week! Not only did we get the EW pictures, but my Song of Ice and Fire Art Book finally arrived!

I also want to tell you how much I enjoyed issue #1 of Doorways, though I'm thinking you have a hatred of noses...I'm seeing a pattern ;)

Looking good; seems like HBO is about to capture this series just marvelously. Just like they did with Rome and Deadwood. Can't wait!

Looking incredible!
This may be one of the only drawbacks to moving to Europe last year...waiting to see this when it is released!

Yeah, those pictures are ridiculously amazing looking. Quality, quality, sets. And the characters!

Daenerys and Jon Snow are nothing like the characters I had in my head, but the others match spot on. These are just pictures, and I know this entire project is in good hands, so I'm not much worrying.

Damn you GRRM! You will rue the day you gave me a reason to purchase Entertainment Weekly -- it's going to be more embarrassing then purchasing a Playboy.

Any chance of the print-only photos being put online at some point in the near future, for those of us who live in countries where this magazine is not available?

Picked up my copy yesterday ;)

Oh my gosh, it looks just about perfect!! I am so excited!

The photos look fantastic! I'm always worried about an adaptation having too much "fantasy" worked into the costuming, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all with this project.
I would still watch it because of Peter Dinklage, even if that were the case. What an exceptional actor.

Good and bad
Robert is fabulous, Dany is great. Ned will be super. At the risk of being nitpicky, and I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum elswhere, but Tyrion is a little too not-ugly, Jaime is nowhere near pretty enough, and Jon Snow is quite Orlando-Bloomish (probably had to be done, focus grouping being what it is). The casting director had the hardest job on the planet for a few weeks, and yet the end product will be M A G N I F I C E N T, I know it will. I will be signing up for HBO for the duration of this series, and ignoring screaming babies while its on. (Not really, CPS.)

New Pics
wow those pictures look much more polished than what I've seen so far. Looks fantastic! Seeing those really makes it hit home that this is almost here - the casting is very well done.

BTW no spoilers but if you didn't watch the Jets/Houston game it was one of the more exciting games I've seen all year. You'll be on the edge of your seat!

Overall, it looks amazing, though I have to say I think the costume & set designers were maybe a bit over-influenced by fantasy-meets-early-medieval look of the LotR movies. It would have been better still to see a more high medieval look, with full armour, heater shields, etc., which is definitely the feel I get from your books. Still, I have very high hopes for this, given the cast list and the source material. Hope it goes well. :)

I agree completely about the costumes very heavily influenced by Dark Age look of Lord of the Rings (with some updated armor).

Had hoped for a more high medieval look (as described in the books). Round shields all wrong.

And a flat bow instead of a longbow...

Well perhaps it will be like Lord of the Rings in that people have a literary version while others just follow the movies.

Still I'm sure once I start watching minor nit-picks will fade into the background.

Are jake and Anne auditioning for the parts of Cersei and Jaime on the cover?
Nov. 22nd, 2010 12:20 am (UTC)
The attention to detail is amazing. Jaime's armor some of the best I've seen. This is going to kick ass George. You're gonna be a household name.

LOVING the pics of Mark Addy. I thought he was too small and young looking for Robert, but they did a damn good job of making him look the part. I love his work, so I'm confident he has the acting chops to rock it.

Lena is also a more attractive Cersei than I thought she would be. I wasn't loving the pics of her blond before, and you have to knock it out of the park for Cersei.

Looks great
I've been a longtime lurker here, but I had to say that I've told just about everyone I know about the upcoming HBO series. I've read the books three times so far. It's going to be exciting seeing your work in film. Thanks for your hard work!

got mine in the mail yesterday and was happily surprised. It's looks awesome!!

Nov. 22nd, 2010 01:50 am (UTC)
It's hard to get used to the characters being aged up, but the sets and costumes and everything look gorgeous!
Nov. 22nd, 2010 06:55 am (UTC)
Looks good!
I like the look of this, from the pictures we see here. The only cast members who diverge wildly from how I see them when I read the books are Jon Snow, Catelyn Stark and most of all Ned Stark. But I do count on the casting cre to have done their job, and am sure these are fine actors, who will be more than able of selling the role. All in all, a very exciting preview.

Looks great!
How many episodes there will be? And will they show a pilot too? (I understand it was filmed with different cast?)

As excited for the show as I am, I am at least a little disappointed with how Cersei and Jaime look, neither of them are very attractive...
BUT that's okay because the show is going to be awesome anyway because Sean Bean is Eddard, and that makes every odd casting choice perfectly alright.
Ugh, now the goth kid has to go buy one of these...
Nov. 22nd, 2010 01:46 pm (UTC)
Looks amazing!! I cannot wait!
Nov. 22nd, 2010 04:10 pm (UTC)

*jump up& down*

I just hope the TV series doesn't catch up to ADWD and have to wait for it to be written.
Nov. 22nd, 2010 07:27 pm (UTC)
I am not ungrateful, but...
Jon should eliminate funny mustache and beard, and someone has to do something with Tyrion's eyes in order to mismatch them...
Nov. 23rd, 2010 06:36 pm (UTC)
Completely unrelated
Hey George,

I first got introduced to your blog about 4 years ago with a rant about TSA and their bullshit 4th amendment infringement. I'd already read all your novels so I was interested in your blog regardless, but that article hooked me into becoming a loyal follower of your blog.

Today I got my hands on this blog which I think you'll find interesting (in regards to one man's ability to get through TSA without being touched or going through the body scanner recently). I just thought you'd be interested and didn't know where else to share it.

/grin This is wonderful news... cannot wait... congratulations are, I believe, in order... Congratulations! I'd love to be a fly on the wall at this viewing partay! (Well, not literally...)
