For Brits wanting to know a bit more:

Sky Atlantic is currently being offered free to all Sky subscribers through August, I believe, so a basic Sky subscription will get it for you.

Also, Sky Atlantic is one of the channels available on the Entertainment Pack for Sky Player, their internet-based viewing service, which is £15 a month -- don't actually have to get a dish and so on to see the show via broadband, which sounds like a great deal (especially as it seems you can just sign up on a month-to-month basis).

Finally, a lot of people are holding out hope that Virgin Media will be allowed to carry Sky Atlantic, but right now the pictures looks grim as the two broadcasters are at loggerheads over the pricing, with Sky claiming Virgin is underpricing and Virgin claiming Sky is overpricing.

(And for other foreign fans: beginning of May in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden on Canal+, May 9th in Spain on Canal+)

Same for me and it is unlikely I will be swapping to sky any time soon...
Though that £15 a month to see it on the online sky player might be a possibility.

Ooops!forget the book,i meant the show is done when it is done!!
Feb. 22nd, 2011 05:27 am (UTC)
Yep, I'm going to subscribe to cable, specifically HBO, in April.
Feb. 22nd, 2011 07:11 am (UTC)
Is it possible to get HBO if you're not from the USA? I am from Germany and IIRC no TV company did get the rights for the show.
Feb. 22nd, 2011 09:03 pm (UTC)
Rights will certainly be sold in Germany sooner or later, so I'd hang tight.
Feb. 22nd, 2011 07:24 am (UTC)
Isn't it a little bit spoilerish? The tv series starts in summer, and winter will come only far later... Newcomers will now know about winter, ah ah (only joking here, ser).

I can't wait. I hope Sky will translate and let the tv series come in Italy as (((soon))) a possible!!!! :-)
Feb. 22nd, 2011 08:27 am (UTC)
And where to sign up in tv-poor old germany? :(
Feb. 22nd, 2011 09:02 pm (UTC)
I am told Germany (and Italy) are big European markets which have broadcasters that tend to deliberate and take a bit longer to purchase rights than some of the other European countries. However, I think it's probably safe to say that whenever the rights are sold, the air dates will still likely fall well in-line with what you're saying in some other European countries.

I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it! :D (Plus Sky Atlantic is free for all Sky customers ;) Whoop!)

Looks great. I would sign up to Sky Atlantic if I could only sign up to that by itself - but I'm told I would also have to sign up to half a dozen channels I already get on Freeview as well as some other rubbishy ones |I don't want...so I must wait and hope to find another way to get the show...
Feb. 22nd, 2011 10:56 am (UTC)
Oh, didn't know about the Sky online viewer, might actually do that nearer the time! I'm certainly not getting a dish for a bunch of channels neither I nor my family wishes to watch but I can manage £15 for 2-3 months for GOT. Been waiting for this show for 10 years and I thnk I owe it to that 17 year old who fantasised about Sean Bean as Ned Stark.
Feb. 22nd, 2011 11:03 am (UTC)
I cant get Sky through a dish (I live in a listed building and don't really want it). But have signed up to Sky player and set it up on my Xbox rather than having to watch it on PC.

Guess its too early for any news on DVD / Bluray release.
Feb. 22nd, 2011 02:59 pm (UTC)
Couldn't be more excited!
