Well, the NFL season got off to a rocky start for me with today's Jets - Patriots game.

Poor Chad. I really feel for the guy.

Another victory for Evil Little Bill, I fear. The Patriots offensive line played an awesome game. The Jets pass rush never got close enough to Tom Brady to muss his hair.

And Thomas Jones, the Jets' big off-season acquisition, showed nothing. I hope this is not an omen of things to come. If so, it could be a long season. Chad is most effective when he's faking handoffs in play-action, and you can't play-action without a running attack.

Browns were just as horrible. Though I feel less was expected from them. You've got my sympathy.

Looks like I missed all the drama -- last part of the game I caught, in the second quarter, NE went up 14-7. I would have liked to have seen that 108-yard kick-off return. Another grim year for NY.

Oh me of little faith - I had Tony Gonzalez starting on my Fantasy team instead of Laveranues Coles. And I paid for it.

At least you're not a Bills fan. Brutal ending to that game.

I'm a JETS fan. It might be interesting to note that for a long time now, they're alternating good season-bad season. I think you can go as far back as my sophomore year of high school, and I'm a uni senior now.

Last year was a good year.

Thus, if we get more than five wins this year, I'll be really happy.

five wins?
If the Jets get five wins or fewer this year, the New York media is going to turn on Mangini with a vengeance. The tabloids love nothing better than to build a guy up so they can tear him down later. One of the brutal realties about playing in New York City.

The Jets did overachieve last year... but they had underachieved the year before, in Herm's last season, and expectations were low. This will be a rougher year, a truer test.

Sorry, but, Go Pats!

I'm a Redskins fan in Virginia. I got so angry at 1pm because for some reason we were seeing the Pats/Jets game instead of the local skins/dolphins game (both on CBS). I mean, the Pats are my AFC team, but I definitely prefer to watch my skins. I think a lot of people were angry about it and called the cable company, because by the end of the first quarter they'd fixed it so we were watching the right game.

I'm in Syracuse. In NY STATE. What did they show?

Ah, well, at least I got to watch my Yankees without feeling guilty!

Hi George
Don't despair ... they are better than they looked today. Jones is injured and just coming back but he is solid and the line is solid. Chad isn't solid, but I think your backup is better anyway.

Unfortunately, I think your buddy bill has created a juggernaut up there. It wasn't that the Jets are bad; the Pats really are that good.

I'm a Skin's fan, so if you want to hear some tales of woe .....

I think that the Jets will do better than predicted if they use this game of a shining example of what they really need to do to shore up their ability to give their quarterback enough time to do what he needs to do.
Sep. 9th, 2007 10:45 pm (UTC)
The Jets were just overmatched today on both sides of the ball. I don't think that this one game is an indication of how their season will go, though. They won't challenge the Pats for the division, but they should be in the hunt for a wild card.

In four months let's see if I'm right. ;-)

Vikes did well today, I am pleased. BTW, my god, Brett Farve looks horrible - did he play as bad as he looked?
Sep. 10th, 2007 06:06 pm (UTC)
The Packers offense was ... quite bad yesterday. Brett missed several open receivers on makeable throws, some of them quite short-range. Between the Eagles pass-rush and no running game, well... the Packers had to be handed the victory.

Not that I'm sorry they won, mind you. :-)

The Bucs got off to a good start, but then it all fell apart. :( At least Green Bay played a good game, despite that scary beginning!

Go Pats!!! =D

Read "The Education of a Coach" and you may not be so quick to condemn Bill. Then again, its worth reading for Halberstam's excellent writing.

I will say I was shocked at the overly-warm reception Jets fans gave the backup QB. I was not aware Pennington was so disliked.

All the Wild Cards books under Tor have had absolutely stellar covers. I'd frame them and hang them on my wall if I could.

Are all these examples digital artwork? It doesn't look like traditional oil on canvas. I miss the fantasy/sci-fi covers of the '70s and '80s. Even the paperbacks had amazing covers.

Whatever anyone can get their hands on is, I suspect, the right answer.

Any chance you could tell us who’s doing the cover art for Fire and Blood? And maybe when we can expect a glimpse of it. Thank you!
