Evil Little Bill

I believe I was talking about how Bill Belicheat has no honor.

Ahem.

I rest my case.

From the sounds of it, the new commish is going to come down pretty hard on them. It makes me wonder though, how many teams are doing this? I doubt just the Pats are doing this.

No surprise
Considering how Evil Bill acts it is no surprise he was caught doing something that is against the rules of the NFL.

Here's hoping they yank one of his 1st rd picks next year for this one.

ESPN Radio
I was listening to a lot of talk on this subject on ESPN radio at lunch today and wondered if I'd see a blog post on this. ;)

Since I defended Coach Bill in your last post, I feel behooved to reply.

As a Pats fan, I am extremely disappointed in the team and saddened by what happened. Other than that, I'm going to wait until all of the facts come out before I make any judgments.

You should still read The Education of a Coach, though. :)

Re: That's the way it's played
I agree, I don't see what the big hoo-hah is about. When I played sports part of the fun was figuring out if certain things meant something and trying to match the pattern. A game within the game.

"Oh no! The other coach scratched his nose! What does it mean!? Or, is he laughing at us because he honestly had to scratch his nose?"

I know little of baseball, but from what I understand, they change their "codes" every game just for this reason.

so if the rule is against videotaping opposing teams' signals, and you are videotaping opposing teams' signals . . . what is there to interpret?

then again, it's not like you can't have someone watching with binoculars in the booth and another noting the signal and the play.

Cool nickname. Haven't liked him since he pretty much spat on Bernie Kozar in Cleveland. With all their success, he just can't help being evil.

So other than the loss of the draft picks, how do you think he should be punished?

This story is getting huge. I wonder how many other teams may be doing this. One thing's for sure though. I know for a fact my Raiders aren't cheating. ^_^

I saw Inside the NFL last night and Marino said that he's not naming any names, but that it DEFINITELY happens.

Really?
Here's the thing -- if Mangini knew it was going on when he was with the Patriots, then why didn't he say something then?

Oh spare me...
I think the Boston Sports media says it best: "Everyone does it, it's just Bill does it better than everyone else."

I do recall phone records of Bill Parcells talking with the NY Jets headquarters the night before Super Bowl XXXI. Of course, nothing was ever done about it. All of the compensatory picks were over the breaking of his contract (much like the Patriots handing over a #1 for Belichick)

That said, if you break the rules, cheat, and get caught, then you have to pay a price. The NE Patriots should have to pay for the upgrade each team will have to make for a defensive player to wear a miked helmet next year. I figure about $1 mil right there. I would then give the Patriots three options:
1. lose a #1 pick
2. lose a #2 pick and a one game suspension for Belichick
3. lose a #3 pick and a two game suspension for Belichick

Then, to make sure that Belichick stays away, fit him with an ankle bracelet and monitor all phone calls between him and any team member. The question is, should he wear a throwback red/white ankle bracelet or a blue/white current colors bracelet. I am sure it will go very nicely with that gray hoodie he is so fond of.

And as the username suggests, I am a longtime Patriots fan. Belichick needs to be punished simply for all the cr@p I am going to have to put up with by Colts, Jets, and Charger fans (never mind those Rams/Panther/Eagles fans who will complain incessantly about SB XXXVI, XXXVIII, and SB XXXIX).

No one's made any "Patriot Act = Spying" plays on words yet?
