In the Apple

A busy week. So much to report, so little time.

I am spending a lt of my time over at Bantam, working with my editor Anne Groell on copyediting and proofing A DANCE WITH DRAGONS to get all the ducks in a row for the July 12 pubdate. A lot of work in a short time frame, but it's going well. Sill have the appendix to nail down, which becomes first priority when I return home May 5.

Watching some of the NFL draft in spare moments, but I've been in such a crunch this year I did not do any of my usual prep, so I have no idea who most of these players are. The Jets and Giants have picked some people. Hope they're good. The Giants got a prince, I see. Not the one who just got married.

Visited the HBO Store yesterday. Incredibly cool, and the people running it were terrific. I signed all the copies of my book on hand, so if there are any New Yorkers reading this who would like an autographed copy, head over to HBO post haste.

All four volumes of the series are now on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller list. I've got a lot to celebrate and I've been doing a lot of celebrating.

Oh, and of course, there was the TIME 100 Gala, where Phipps and I dressed up like grown-ups and hung out with some amazing people. More on that when we get home.

I am so happy for all the good things coming Your way! You really have big reasons to celebrate, and all of Your fans too! Congratulations on the books getting to the bestseller list, if there are books that deserve it, then it is those four :)

Enjoy yourself in New York George. You've certainly earned it!

Small Question...
I know you are the editors and proofreaders are going to be crazy busy for the next couple months... but I was wondering... if we could get another sample chapter from the book. Something to keep us sane while we wait this one little bit left. Congratulations again, btw. Can't wait for July 12.

Prince Amukamara is one of the steals of the draft. Giants got one of the best corners in college football. You'll really like him. And he really is African royalty.

All the Best.
George your books are exploding in popularity. I have no more loaner copies of Thrones to lend, but so much buzz, thanks to HBO. Dance is going to be a monster. I'm so glad I am on vacation the week of the 12th. I hope you continue to enjoy commercial success for all the times you've entertained us over the years.

Book Tour?
Congratulations on finishing the book!!! I know its a little early to have this planned as of yet, but hearing you speak and getting my copy of feast signed in Calgary was one of the highlights of my life. Hope you are able to make it back to Alberta this time around. My wife and I will be the first ones in line.

The Draft
Firstly, congrats on finishing off Kong. Somewhere, on the pinnacle of that great tower that is scraping heaven, Fay Wray breathed a sigh of relief.

The draft. I'm like you, George - I only know a few of the "name" guys and am somewhat clueless beyond the 2nd round. Still, I agree with a few of your other commentors - Prince Amukamara is probably going to be a great help to the Giants. Not to mention that his royal kin from Nigeria certainly spiced up the draft at Radio City with their hyper-vibrant, native Nigerian garb.

I am a Dolphins fan, but something that you, I, and any Bills fans can grit our teeth about is what the Patriots did. I have a nasty feeling that The Hoody will refine Ryan Mallett, who will be ready to step in an possibly dominate when Brady's star starts to fade in 3 or 4 years. Ugh.

Publishing date in mid-July.
You do of course, realize how many people will be reading the book at Pennsic?
Might as well just come do a signing at War...

I am looking forward to the new book. I've seen the first episode of your HBO show and really enjoyed it. Peter Dinklage is brilliant!

Congrats on Kong!! Must feel good. :)

In the meantime, I've just finished watching Episode 3 of AGOT, and, man, does it NOT suck. They have done a fine job, with some great material, so far. I'll offer some congratulations on that as well - I hope you're enjoying it as much as we all are!!

Hello George, it's my first time writing to your blog although I've been reading it for some time.I am also new to your books.I read all of them 6 months ago.A part of me was "how could you wait so long to read something so perfect but another part of me is saying this is the perfect time to read Dance so you were lucky to read them now". I am going through my fifth reread and they get better with every reading. I am very happy for you and all of your latest success.Congratulations!!!You deserve every bit of it and much more...which I am sure will come. You also deserve a very good rest I think after the book is done but with so much coming I wonder if you'll get it.The TV series is also perfect, I watch that too, they really honour your work.

Can I ask you one question, no spoiler I swear:for those of us who perhaps have the crazy idea to read Feast for Crows together with Dance with Dragons as one in a sort of merge (imagine that reading, it will be glorious, one chapter from one book another two from the other...you get the idea) would there be some way for you to tell us the order in which the chapters from each of those books should be read to achieve the right chronological order. I suppose we could easily guess but you can never be sure....only you know best....I confess that the idea struck me immediately after reading Feast which I adored by the way.

I am very sorry for such a long message
Take care above all!!!!

Kong and Bin Laden, all in the same week?
It's great news, but one must wonder at the possible conspiracy. I wonder if Littlefinger had anything to do with it? Now if only he could rig Today's Canadian election and make sure anyone but Stephan Harper win.

Congrats Mr Martin
Congratulations on finishing A Dance With Dragons. I have to say, I'm beyond excited. I understand its been a long and stressful journey for you.

I am thoroughly enjoying the Game of Thrones TV series, which I've got my brother watching too. I can't wait to see the story reach its climax.

I did not post any nasty comments demanding that you finish the novel - or else, but I've been as anxious as the next person: checking for updates, scouring Amazon, etc, etc. The series of books are not put-downable and I have become emotionally attached to some of the central characters, so naturally I want to know what has become of them.

Thanks very much. All the best.
