Go and enjoy. I know I did.

The title sequence kicks ass.

Since you mentioned it yourself...

Just what is that continent north of Essos supposed to be? Some filler Elastic put into the map, or is it a never-before-mentioned fourth continent now revealed?

There is no continent north of Essos, though there may be some islands (besides Ibben) and there is undoubtedly a polar ice cap.

That is an interesting bit
that will draw the less-curious into the story. I love the clockwork, "game" sense of the title sequence, I think it is an excellent opening piece.

Love the whole thing so far, even though I'm cringing at some of the mean bits (at least I'm watching, some things I won't watch...).

Like the Lady scene? I couldn't watch that. I bawl every time I read it in the book, still. Still!

That song has been in my head for days, maybe weeks now. And I'm happy for it to stay!

Yeah... it pretty much lives in my head now. Also, hi again Polly's friend with the icon I like so much! xD

I love the music behind the title sequence; it's perfect. Nice to see the reasoning behind the mechanical look, I couldn't quite figure out what they were going for.

Awesome sequence
I love that title sequence. It's got to be the best opener I've ever seen for any HBO show. I wonder if they'll do a new variation for the next season.

I think they didn't bother to do the reading...
"...[the relief carvings on the shiny astrolabe-thing] tell about dragons attacking Westeros. They tell about how the different houses on Westeros got together and defeated those dragons, and how those houses, represented by their respective animals, bowed in allegiance to the Baretheon stag."

That's kinda not how I remember the history going...

(also, hi, love your work, long-time reader, first time commenter, totally glad 'Dance' will be out for my birthday, etc., etc...)

Yes and no.. it's simplified--but I think they were referring to Robert's Rebellion as the overthrowing of "the dragons"

Yes, I'd love to hear the answer to that. Also, on one of the fly-by's of the astrolabe, it shows the dragon standing beside an erupting volcano. I wonder, is that the Doom of Valyria?

It's gotta be. What other place got destroyed by a volcano?(probably, I mean)

Woah, I just realized they have a huge landmass beyond the Sunset Sea. Is that canon or just concept?

We may get The Eyrie in the title sequence this week. :-)

And indeed we did! How cool that the title sequence changes based on where the action is happening that week...

Agreed
I couldn't agree more about the title sequence. It's gotten me pumped up all four times that I've watched it. Brilliantly novel visuals and classically rousing music score. They won't have to change it one bit, though that approach worked well for shows like The Wire.

I, too, ADORE that title sequence. I WANT that map -- with or without the cool moving bits!

This is so cool, and so agonizing at the same time. They keep talking about how "if this existed within the world" and "monks poring over this big physical map"... and my mind keeps shouting:

THE MAP TABLE! THE MAP TABLE AT DRAGONSTONE!! IT'S PERFECCCTTTTTTT!

I don't know whether they read the books or not, and if they didn't it's quite a coincidence that they came up with pretty much the same idea. It would be rather cool to see the map table looking like the opening sequence, however.
