In Warsaw

I'm in Warsaw. Spent the morning doing interviews and a big press conference. Now I'm about to leave for a signing at the Traffic Club, whioh is actually a bookstore.

Getting here was somewhat of an ordeal. Our flight from Abluquerque to Chicago was an hour late, which resulted in us missing our connection, and the direct flight that would have gotten us into Poland yesetdray morning. Instead we had to cool our heels half a day in O'Hare and then go by way of London, with a change of planes in Heathrow. We got into Warsaw yesetrday evening instead, and had to go straight to a big HBO interview at a movie complex. There were several hundred fans there, an amazing turnout. Alas, I was too exhausted to sign books and had to go get some sleep... but I am about to make up for that at the Traffic Club.

Anyway, I'm fine (if tired) and glad to be here. (But my assistant Ty is sick as a dog. We're hoping he'll be better by tomorrow, when we leave Warsaw for the con in Ndiza).

Magical meeting
It was wonderful to finally see you in person, once in a lifetime opportunity. Though I'm very sorry that I had to return home to finish my thesis and was unable to be in Traffic Club for signing. All the best for your stay in Poland!

Best wishes

It was worth to ride 300 km to Warszawa to meet you and I really appreciate that you have stay with us for so long, despite the enormous exhaustion. It was a blast! Though I wish I could be in Traffic Club today. Nonetheless, to keep it short - thanks for Tyrion ;)

Ty's sick
Hey, that means no one is screening this, right?

I found George's Notes on the Last Book! I found George's notes on the last book!

Turns out all the characters show up in a big room where they all died after living in alternate realities with big smiles on their faces.

Oops. Should I have typed "Spoiler" first?

Did anyone at the book-signing asked you for a dedication to "Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz"? It's a common Polish joke (and it is actually a valid name) so be prepared.

I was lucky enough to get a my Armageddon Rag and GoT signed today, so thanks George and have fun at Nidzica.

Airlines are so unreliable. Hope you have time for some pierogis and golabkis (cabbage rolls). So much good food in Poland.

Polish language is not THAT difficult after all, I guess ;)
The place of the con is Nidzica, not "Ndiza" ;) I guess it's totally unspeakable for you ;)

Those pesky Polish digraphs :). And I just checked there's no mention of them in the English wiki :). Hue and cry! We are the most-digraphized nation in the world and yet not a tiny bit there. No wonder you Anglo-Saxons seem so lost and utterly vulnerable when confronted with even one little "dz" :D

Wow, Warsaw huh? Well you picked the right season, I imagine New Mexico is baking this time of year. Bummer about Ty, hopefully someone else will get some pictures of your trip.

The HBO series is going beautifully I think. Such a great cast.

Your event
How do I get in contact with you on one of your events when you're in Slovenia, Mr. Martin?

George's schedule in Slovenia
You can find out more by checking George's appearance page:

http://www.georgerrmartin.com/appearances.html

Whenever we have confirmed and active appearances arranged, we do try to get it up the web site as quickly as possible. But sometimes we don't have that information, or plans and schedules change at the last minute. If there's any SF fan message boards in Slovenia, maybe you can put an inquiry up there, or see if there's a discussion thread already going about George's time in Slovenia.

As you can see, there's not too much detail that we were able to get up on the website before George's departure. The best I can suggest is that you contact the Slovenian publisher, or if you can deduct just which bookstore is referred to as "June 23, 6:00 p.m. book signing in Ljubljana, at bookstore across from Hotel Slon" you could check their website, or call them for more information.

hope you get the chance to see George while he's in your country, it's his very first visit to Slovenia.

"They killed my nigga Ned!"
I know this is unrelated to this specific blog entry, but I thought you might enjoy this fan's reaction to Sunday's episode "Baelor"

It about mimics my own reaction 14 years ago when I first picked up A Game of Thrones, but he's a bit more colorful with his vernacular ^.^

Wonderful signing in Warsaw. My publishers tell me that a thousand people passed through the line. Which is pretty amazing. And would explain why I'm so tired.

Polish fans seem very nice. Especially that very pretty young woman who kissed me on the cheek.

And GAME OF THRONES has been the #1 bestseller in Poland for two months running.

Great country.

Off to the con tomorrow...

Damn... I knew I would regret not coming to Traffic. Life and work are brutal, aren't they? But I am glad I could see you live in the cinema...
Is there any tiniest possibility I can gain your signature per mail? ;)
