In Nidzica

The convention has been a great time. Though on Friday night Ty and I both drank way too muich vodka, which made our visit to Marbork castle yesterday more of an ordeal than it was meant to be. The castle was very impressive, though I don't think Ty is going to remember any of it.

Today we take off for Poznan and the next stage of our Polish visit.

Something seems amiss with my computer at home. When I hook up to it, via the internet, it tells me that I haven't received any emails in three days, which I find extremely unlikely. SO if you have been trying to email me recently, I haven't gotten more message. Maybe Ty will be able to get it going later today.

Till then, this Live Journal seems my only contact with the outside world. (We did buy a Polish sim for our cellphone, but haven't been able to get that working either).

Drink some Krupnik George! It's tasty, but sweet, honey and grain liquor.

After spending 2 months in Poland last summer, I can safely say there is no such thing as too much vodka. Only not enough water to go along with said vodka. That goes for the beer, too. Be sure to try some Bosman if you can find it.

Wodka and Castles in Poland...remindes me of an awesome excavation some years ago :)
Enjoy George!

It was wonderful meeting you, Mr. Martin, it really, really was! Here's hoping you'll have great time and Poznań won't prove as exhausting as Warsaw :>.

I attended the Boston Bruins' duckboat parade yesterday, adjacent to Boston Common. While we were stuffed on the sidewalk like canned sardines waiting for the parade to arrive, I spotted a guy passing the time by reading Clash of Kings. Smart dude.

Hey, sounds like a great trip! Glad at least you remember the castle visit!
Writing this from Voorhees, NJ at a small coffee house waiting for Janis Ian to start her concert. Michael Swanwick is in the audience.
Say hello to Paris. Hope to see you both at Reno. ---Ken Brown

Yeah, Friday was fun! I never thought I would get a chance to drink with the author of my absolutely favorite books... even if I'm the only one to remember that. :D It's a pity you weren't on the feast though, but eventually we got a photo in costumes with you, so I'm satified.^^

So that is why Ty has been so sick. Sounds like a great deal of fun.

I am so bummed tonight is the last episode of GoT already. On the bright side, Dance is due out in just a few weeks. I hope it meets my expectations, which admittedly are infinite.

The Vodka is fine ....
... just stay away from the cucumbers :) Or so the news tells me - apparently that is what poisoned everyone. Have fun. Can't wait to see you soon xxx

Acutally you should take the time for visiting Andrej Sapkowski while staying in Poland. He is one of Europe's best fantasy authors known for novels about the witcher Geralt of Rivia and the fantastic medieval epic about Reynevan, a Silesin medic and magician.
I'm sure you would like his novels and the meeting would create a prolific exchange of ideas.

Vodka hangover and a tour of the world's largest castle... argh. You can do Eilean Donan hung over, the tour is short and the cool air clears the head. Just a helpful tip for those that castle hop.

By the way - congrats on the end of GoT season 1 - I think pretty much everyone's been impressed and pleased with how it turned out. I'm anxiously awaiting the DVD release - any idea when that'll be???

Miss USA gives Game of Thrones shout-out!!!
George - dude - I'm sure you are not one to watch Miss USA pageants, but in the pageant - which was TONIGHT - when they reached the final 4, they asked Miss California about her hobbies and she said she loves loves history like the Tudors, etc. and she said she watches A Game of Thrones (which she admitted was more fantasy). Nevertheless, can you believe your book/show was referenced...there, of all places? So she went on to win and I'm sure it was due to the AGOT reference, right?! Anyways, if this isn't proof your story has reached beyond your wildest expectations, I don't know what is! Hope you are enjoying your trip...hurry back soon!

Small question: Did they plan tonight's episode to be a special Father's Day episode of Game of Thrones or was it just an accident?
