Should Math Be Taught in Schools?

((Sad to say, this parody is hardly exaggerated at all. A few of the answers are almost verbatim to the actual answers of the Miss USA contestants to "Should Evolution Be Taught in Schools." Go watch that video on YouTube and see for yourself)).

(((There are days I think I am living in the world of Kornbluth's "Marching Morons." Just look at reality TV, and remember the hit show in his story)))

(((I am vastly pleased that the eventual Miss USA winner, and GAME OF THRONES fan, does "believe in evolution." And presuambly in math as well))).

I just watched the 15 minute clip of all the contestantds responses and must say I am no dumber for having done so. In a big win for you, Miss NM was one of the only contestants to address the importance of Science. Most of the contestants seem to think that we should present both and allow children to decide which they want to believe. Based on this line of thinking I wish to implement the following additions to our educational curriculum -- Pig Latin is to be taught alongside English - at age 8 Children are to pick which they prefer. The History of Middle Earth is to be taught alongside IS history - at grade 5 children are to chose which History fits their view of the world. And finally, from age 4 to age 6 children are to be fed only candy, McDonalds, and Pizza during even weeks of the year and nutrtious foods consisting of vegetables, fruiy, and lean meats during odd weeks of the year. From their 7th birthday on, children will be allowed to make their own choice as to their meal preference. As the majority of the contestants indicated - children need to chose - and not be educated. (I personally chose to worship the Sun)

I can not believe that this is even a question. My god watching the video where the girls answer this question makes me want to throw stuff around. And how can a person be OFFENDED by EVOLUTION? Honestly, some religious people are so darn narrow minded they scare me.

It seems to me that the question and answers are all backward. I always thought the controversy was "should we teach Creationism in schools" not evolution. I thought teaching evolution was a given.

I want to teach kids both. Why not? Teach facts as facts and let's learn the truth out there from both sides of the story. Isn't that the best thing to do? What are we to be afraid of? Both fields have a LOT that we DON'T know about it, but also a lot that we DO know. I learned evolution in school, but still believe that God created us. I think a lot of the science in Evolution are applicable and good to learn, even if I don't buy the overarching theory that Evolution created us as we are today over billions and billions of years.

Some very interesting comments and arguments. And while I'll never be an expert in either field, I still enjoying learning as much as I can when I get the chance.

Re: backward
SURE YOU DO. Sure you do, that is why evolution is taught in Sunday School?

It isn't FEAR. It is the simple fact that we have FREEDOM of religion. The state (in this case the Federal Gov't of the USA) is not going to use PUBLIC funds to further your RELIGIOUS argument, however logical you think it is.

Do you think it okay that a child you know must go to school and, instead of Biology learns about how the Prophet Mohammed was given the word of Allah? No? Neither do I. I don't give a wit, what your beliefs are, whether you believe them to be true, India has a billion people that think Vishnu is God (and not like the Abrahamic God at all), or what. It doesn't belong in science class as it isn't science.

You want it taught that way? Then the Theory of Evolution MUST be taught in ALL religious schools and not from the Creationist perspective.. it is only fair, right?

Season 2
What is Season 2 going to be called? A Clash of Kings, OR Game of Thrones 2, etc.?

things like this make me doubt evolution....if it truly exists, then how have these people not died from nail salon fumes? it is a sad world we live in.

Sometimes I wonder why it's inhumane to sterilise people. Surely this lot shouldn't be allowed to spawn? For the greater good?
