Should Math Be Taught in Schools?

((Sad to say, this parody is hardly exaggerated at all. A few of the answers are almost verbatim to the actual answers of the Miss USA contestants to "Should Evolution Be Taught in Schools." Go watch that video on YouTube and see for yourself)).

(((There are days I think I am living in the world of Kornbluth's "Marching Morons." Just look at reality TV, and remember the hit show in his story)))

(((I am vastly pleased that the eventual Miss USA winner, and GAME OF THRONES fan, does "believe in evolution." And presuambly in math as well))).

Should art be taught in schools? Music? Writing?

Human Evolution remains a theory.

You should probably look below for definition of the word "theory" in relation to evolution...

Not just in relation to Evolution. Gravity is a theory. It's a theory that the earth goes around the Sun. It's a theory that bacteria cause disease.

A lot of people need to realise that the word "theory" means within a scientific context.

Ah the old semantic argument
In other words, 'it's just a theory'. You peddlers of unreason just love this.

Yes, it is a theory, a theory proven many times since Darwin's seminal work. To use the scientific definition of a theory "a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena". This theory has been mathematically and statistically proven many, many, MANY times. What all theories must have is EVIDENCE and this theory has it in spadeloads.

It is the LAW (I think this word may be more evocative?) of evolution that explains:
- The origin of man.
- Where fossils come from.
- Bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
- Why we have an appendix, vestigial tailbone, a fibula bone etc

But I think in the end, if someone does not want to believe something, they will stick their fingers in their ears and go 'la la la' and plead that they are being persecuted. Religionists love playing the persecution card.

Any problems with any other theory out there? I remember that Christians didn't care much for the THEORY of a Heliocentric Solar System either...what about Theory of Thermodynamics? The Theory of Relativity? The Theory of Gravity?

Just theories?

The Theory of Gravity is just a "theory"...
