Five Days...

... till Kong is loosed upon the world.

Feels strange, after so many years. I know that some of you thought I would never finish. Believe me, there were dark nights of the soul where I had my doubts as well. But now the day is almost at hand, and the dragons will fly.

In fact, they are already taking wing. Bantam informs me that DANCE has just gone back for its 6th hardcover printing, and it isn't even on sale yet. The first reviews are breaking today, and so far (knock wood) they have all been great. And in the UK, Waterstone's in Glasgow has put up a brilliant window display:

Exciting times.

Both editions
Pre-ordered on Kindle about a month ago (let's hope it's avaliable on Kindle at the same time it is on paper); and will also buy a hardcover Spanish edition as soon as it's translated. Happy times!

BTW, Mr. Martin, next time you come to Spain (whenever that is) I'll make you sign my Kindle! :)

Wow wow wow! We can't believe we got a mention on here from the Man himself! Thanks so much for posting our window and all the kind comments on it! We had great fun putting it together and are so impatient for Tuesday to arrive! Our window gang put in a lot of work for it , we're so happy! Congratulations to George RR Martin for the great reviews already, hopefully much more to come!

And yes to the question - That was a dragon egg!!

Just wanted to say a bunch of UK retail websites with ADWD up for preorder are calling it "The fifth volume in the greatest epic work of the modern age."

I thought that was pretty cool.

Brilliant. I just pre-ordered mine.

A question though. Can I already gripe bout the next one not being finished yet?

I pre-ordered from Amazon as soon as I got the email it had an official release date! So excited!! I've been listening to the audiobooks to refresh my memory in preparation. When will the ADWD Audio be out??

Confused. Help!
I'm confused. It sounds like you're saying the series is complete. Is this the final book to the series? This may be an obvious answer to some, but I truly don't know. I do love the series. Winds of Winter?

Please help and clarify!

Re: Confused. Help!
No, this is not the last book. Don't know where you would get that impression. Two more after this.

Re: Confused. Help!
I got the impression from the statement of it being so many years that many thought it would never be finished. I guess that was strictly in reference to the book, and not the series. Awesome! Thank you so much!

French e-book
I beg you sir. Force your french editors to sell us e-book version of your work. I'm forced to buy books, and then to find an illegal e-copy because I'm handicapped, and can't manipulate a book. French editors are really late, in e-book distribution...

Exciting times indeed!
I can hardly wait for July 12th, although I'm biding my time by re-reading the previous installments at a leisurely pace, to re-acquaint myself with all the subtle little details and sub-plots that I've forgotten in the meantime.

"The Song of Ice and Fire" pretty much proves that literary quality is not a question of genre, and that fantasy novels do not have to be formulaic and superficial.
I've rarely seen anybody else weave so many strands and yarns into a single, beautifully crafted tapestry. If I manage to rival your writing skills 30 years from now, I'll consider myself extremely fortunate.

Just finished Dance with Dragons
Well worth the wait! It's hard to pick a favorite from the series, but this is a strong contender.

Oh my god it's bizarre to see my place of work on your blog!
I actually asked if I could keep the dragon egg! haha.
