Leaving Seattle

A thousand people turned up at Town Hall last night for my Seattle signing, sponsored by the University Bookstore.

Seattle also included visits to Bungie (I could tell you what they are doing, but then I'd have to kill you) and Amazon (where they are selling lots o' books). Cool stuff, great people.

Comicon, LA, and Redwood City already seem to be receding into the distant past. The trip has become one long blur... but tiring as it is at times, it means a lot to me to meet so many of my readers. I appreciate all of you coming, in spite of the crowds and long lines.

This morning we're off to Denver. Tomorrow I sign at Tattered Cover. See you there.

I was very disappointed to find that, while debating whether or not I was up to standing for hours while heavily pregnant, the signing had sold out. I hope the rest of the Seattle fans treated you well, and glad to hear that you got to tour a bit while here.

Still looking forward to seeing you again...sometime.

It means a lot to US : )
Please tell Ty to load you up with vitamins and minerals, bread, mead whatever it takes to keep you going. I saw you at comic con and at mysterious book galaxy, your back was bothering you and your poor hand was still attached to your arm!
I don't know how you do it but I'm certainly grateful for your time and sacrifice. If you survived comic con, you can survive anything George. Thanks for signing all my books. xo

Could it be HALO MEETS WESTEROS?! That'd be kinda cool.
Aug. 3rd, 2011 06:10 pm (UTC)
Disagree. If it were Myth meets Westeros THAT would be cool.
Jul. 30th, 2011 05:47 pm (UTC)
Thanks from Seattle!
It was really great getting a chance to talk to you! My dog-eared copy of Wild Cards III will be forever cherished.
Jul. 30th, 2011 06:35 pm (UTC)
Hope you're enjoying your adventures! I bet all the exhaustion and travel-blur will wind up nestling in the back of your brain until you have a character in something need to travel great distances again! :D
Jul. 30th, 2011 07:08 pm (UTC)
Does this mean you have A Song of Ice and Fire game in the works at Bungie!? That would be amazing.
Jul. 30th, 2011 08:23 pm (UTC)
I really hope you wont drain yourself too much...
Get some rest mr. martin. your fans will understand!

Great to meet you!
I had an amazing time meeting you and hearing you talk. Thank you for all you do for us fans George. It really means a lot. And I will be looking for that cookbook at the inn by the crossroads....

Thanks again for the amazing visit. See you next time.

My wife and daughter attended and were thrilled with the event, although less than thrilled with the crowd management :). You signed my original Game of Thrones and told my wife it was worth some money :).

Thanks so much for all you do.

I'd love to have books autographed, it would be great if you could be at the Book Biennial in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil.
It would be a success!
Brazilian kisses!

ps>> I'm sorry for the google translator ... ;)
I still do not know English very well.

I am trying to figure out if I have ever seen you post about Bungie before... and what Bungie you are referring to. The only one I know if the video game company, out of Bellevue, Washington, right across the lake from Seattle.

I know of no past partnership between you and Bungie, and I have never heard anything about you being an avid gamer, so I can only speculate why you would go there, and that speculation suggests a future game collaboration.. which is very interesting, since Bungie is working on a new IP for Activision/Blizzard... and it would be so cool if that new IP was based on A Song of Ice and Fire... or the HBO adaptation. Seems way to good to be true though.

Besides, I thought Cyanide was developing a video game tie in...

Re: Bungie?
I was thinking/hoping the same thing.. but, more realistically, maybe he was doing some consulting on a new fantasy/sci-fi style game. I am hoping they go fantasy again, like their old 'Myth' universe. They have done sci-fi and do death with Halo and Marathon.

Want to/allowed to comment George? :)

Getting a chance to finally meet you last night - even in passing in a signing line - was truly amazing. It would be easy for someone with your talent and following to morph into a snooty, conceited guy, so it is doubly moving to listen to you so graciously and humbly answer questions from your fans. Thanks so much for all you do!

Redwood City
Thank you so much for coming out to illegibly scrawl on our books :) My mom and I both made it to the Redwood City signing and thought they did a fantastic job making it enjoyable for everyone involved. I hope you stay well the rest of this tour!

I had no one to go with me to the Denver signing, but I am sure it will be quite the event. I love that bookstore!

Not to nag or anything, but I'm already out of book, so when are you going to be done with all this silliness? ;-)

Looking forward to meeting you in Denver! See you tomorrow.

The Seattle event was super fun -- the first I've ever been to. Thanks for signing all 5 of my books, and thanks for hours and hours (and hours and hours) of great reading. :)
Jul. 31st, 2011 04:04 am (UTC)
Bungie? Now that certainly sounds interesting!
Jul. 31st, 2011 09:00 am (UTC)
Glad the signing went well!

And for those wondering about the Bungie think, I was just as intrigued, so here's my entirely speculative post on the topic.

Regardless, this is very good news.

I know you were in Slovenia, so please don't stop and come to the other mid/east european countries! Here in Hungary we are all crazy about you! Your books sell out in a week in every bookstore and there would be thousands of people wanting to meet you! We'd be happy to have you here :)

Denver appearance
After waiting several hours, I got a glimpse of Mr Martin and was even able to ask a question. He was very gracious.

The Tattered Cover, not so much. Upon finding out that I had purchased my copy of Dance earlier, I was asked to go back to the end of the line or leave. I explained that I was a cancer patient in treatment, and could not wait any longer. Too bad. Leave, sir.

I was able to get my first edition copy of AGOT signed, thanks to a very kind woman in line. No dice on Dance.

I had never heard or read that you must buy the new book onsite the day of the signing. How then do the justify signing older items?

Wonderful night
Thanks for coming out to our corner of the world! The weather was beautiful (for once) and you are easily the nicest celebrity-type person I have ever met. Thank you for everything!

Bungie huh? I wonder what you possibly could have been talking to Bungie about. Probably not a series of Westeros themed knicknacks and dustables. ;)

Kind of wish it had been Bioware but Bungie is good too.
Sep. 7th, 2011 01:11 pm (UTC)
Bioware is terrible now, but just as long as it's not some like, fps in the vein of westeros I won't care too much.

Enjoy your trip :)
