I'm Number One...

... in Portugal.

The first translation of A DANCE WITH DRAGONS is just out. And the gold medal for fastest translation goes to Portugal.

Mind you, my Portugese publisher splits each book into two volumes, so this is only the first half of DANCE... but even so, the first volume is in the bookshops, and I'm told it has vaulted to the top of the Portugese bestseller lists.

So... which country will get the silver medal? Spain? Italy? Germany? Your guess is as good as mine, but I'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, back in the States, DANCE fell to #3 on the NYTimes list last week, and this week is down to #4. But still in the top ten, nine weeks after publication.

"And the gold medal for fastest translation goes to Portugal."

Actually, Croatia released first volume of translated ADWD on 26th July with 2nd part coming on 26th September. So at best, Portugal gets the Silver Medal ^_^;

Indeed. That was really one fast translation from Croatia. I read the english version, but my father got the croatian one for the library about month ago... pretty good translation too, i must say.

Yep, the croatian got out first but they had 2 translators working simultaneously and we only have one :)

Actually, from what I've seen, the translation is not very good and it looks like the translator never read any of the previous books. He seems to think that Harma is a man.

Actually, Norway released the first volume on May 3, and the second volume August 22, so the silver goes to Croatia and "only" bronze for Portugal ;o)

Norway released DANCE?

Norway hasn't even published the first four books, so far as I know. At least I haven't seen copies.

Did they release those as well? Or begin the series with volume 5?

Wow... Seems my brain doesn't do school well after many years working. After an intense few days it obviously has shut down completely and not even noticed that it was Dance and not Game that was mentioned. So I guess we don't even place in the top 10 or so. *blush*
