After the Emmys

For those of you who may have been hiding under a rock since Sunday... or maybe watching the Falcons/ Eagles game when you should have been wtching the Emmycast... the big news here is that Peter Dinklage won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for this portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in HBO's GAME OF THRONES.

Goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that all of us from GOT were thrilled by Peter's win. Much deserved. And only the first of many, I suspect.

GAME lost out in the other three ctegories where we had nominations, alas... including BEst Drmaatic Series, where MAD MEN took home the Emmy for the fourth straight year. But as the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers of my youth used to say, "Wait'll Next Year."

The Emmy festivities have changed immensely since the last time I ws up for one (for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, back in 1989 or so). The weekend was a blur of pre-parties, post-parties, receptions, gifting lounges, red carpets, and limos. Parris and I got to lift a glass or three with Peter, David & Dan and their lovely wives, Mark Addy, Lena Headey, Michelle Fairley, Kit Harrington, Jason Momoa, and Nicholaj Coster-Waldau, and some of the cast from BOARDWALK EMPIRE as well. I met lots of very cool people, and was astonished and delighted by how many fans the series -- both the TV series AND the books -- has in Hollywood, even on other networks and series. (Keep a sharp eye out in future weeks for GOT nods on a couple of your favorite comedies).

But now to work. I'm still in LA, and will be here for the rest of the week, but from this point on it's mostly meetings. But more good stuff may come out of those as well... one hopes...

Giant of Lannister
Definitely deserved for Peter, but AGOT was robbed by Mad Men. The Mad Men 4th season wasn't the best... a new champ was warranted.

Curious as to which comedies will be tipping their hats! Also, please stop by in Ottawa, Canada, George! It's a lovely city, and we take care of our guests.

Re: Giant of Lannister
Yes! I have been recuiting Ottawa fans to your cause for several years now & it's really starting to spread - we'd all love it if you were to stop by our little town sometime for a visit... For your sake though, I'd not suggest during winter, which is coming.

As for comedies that might throw in GoT nods sometime soon, my money is on Big Bang Theory. I believe at least some of them were there at the Emmys, and the characters on the show are definitely genre fans. The show also has a history of slipping in some fandom fodder now and then, such as the several episodes where you can see them playing a fantasy/RPG-themed board game called Talisman.

I don't have American TV. Can someone post these shout-outs in the comment section of this blog as they see them?

I laughed so hard reading this post because of the typos: ctegories, BEst, Drmaatic, ws :D

I am really happy that Peter won, he totally deserved it, and I hope we see other cast members getting their own statues soon.

And the most important thing: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Martin! :D

Well, if I'd being haven't the past few days Mr Martin's been having, I doubt I could type straight too.....

It'd be nice if a Wild Cards movie came out of those meetings.

Congrats on all the success of Game of Thrones.

My vote is a Wild Cards tv series.

Unless season 2 is amazing beyond words, Breaking Bad is a lock for Best Drama next year. This season has been amazing beyond words. The latest episode would have passed for a season finale in any other series it was so amazing.

Re: Dunno...
Season One of GoT was just the warm-up round. Believe me.

Mad Men. Yes they were to not choose Game. Well I suppose it's to be expected. It's a "period" and insider show.

But, anyhoo. I'm glad that the missus and you had a swaggarific time. Reap those rewards...

And if you are not too busy, remember to post you take on the Jets and Giants. I'm looking forward to it.

Peter deserved his award so much :') I'm so very glad he won! GoT should have won the other awards it was nominated for as well, but hopefully we'll get what we deserve with the next seasons!

Happy birthday and congratulations for everything, Martin!

Wait'll season 2, indeed
Season 2 is going to produce more Emmy nominations, no doubt. And season 3...holy %#&*! Anyone who hasn't read the books, and I know a few of them in my office, are in for some amazing episodes.

One of my friends at work has watched every television series ever produced, I think, so I was a bit nervous when I plugged Game of Thrones during a meeting with my staff before episode 1 had even aired. After watching season 1, though, my friend says it's among the best television he's ever watched. I did, of course, tell him, "You ain't seen nothin' yet."

Most importantly, I want to wish you a Happy Birthday, all the best, good health, love, prosperity and everything else! May you have many more ahead, full of goodness and delight!

As for the Emmys, they might have changed, but their myopia and narrow-mindedness hasn't! When you continuously give the award for best TV series to the same show for 4 years in a row, especially when there are other much better shows out there...that speaks volumes! "Game Of Thrones" should have won hands-down, no questions asked! What about "The Walking Dead", "The Killing", "Boardwalk Empire", if "Game Of Thrones" wasn't it, any of the other shows could have easily won over "Mad Men"...don't even get me started on the acting categories...

I enjoy the show on my own terms, and could care less for the Emmys or any other awards, though I understand it is a nice thing to win and be recognized by your peers...so my comments notwithstanding, congratulations are in order for Mr. Dinklage and Dan & Dan and the rest of the cast and crew who bring the show to life!

Happy Birthday and congrats on a great year!

Congratulations to Peter.

Can anyone tell me what clip of Peter's performance was shown at The Emmy's? I'm pretty sure it won't have been the confession in the Eerie but I am curious ;)
Thank you in advance.

Congrats!! Happy birthday!!!
Dear George, congratulations for your birthday!!! I love your books, all of them (at least all that I've read): I laughed with big bastard Tuf, laughed even more with small bastard Tyrion, and felt my heart struggled with Lya.
All my best wishes for you (and Parris, of course) and I hope to see you next year in Gijón, at the Semana Negra.

PS: and, of course, my congrats to Peter Dinklage for his absolutely deserved award! And for all the team for the nominations! You're doing a great great show.
