After the Emmys

For those of you who may have been hiding under a rock since Sunday... or maybe watching the Falcons/ Eagles game when you should have been wtching the Emmycast... the big news here is that Peter Dinklage won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for this portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in HBO's GAME OF THRONES.

Goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that all of us from GOT were thrilled by Peter's win. Much deserved. And only the first of many, I suspect.

GAME lost out in the other three ctegories where we had nominations, alas... including BEst Drmaatic Series, where MAD MEN took home the Emmy for the fourth straight year. But as the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers of my youth used to say, "Wait'll Next Year."

The Emmy festivities have changed immensely since the last time I ws up for one (for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, back in 1989 or so). The weekend was a blur of pre-parties, post-parties, receptions, gifting lounges, red carpets, and limos. Parris and I got to lift a glass or three with Peter, David & Dan and their lovely wives, Mark Addy, Lena Headey, Michelle Fairley, Kit Harrington, Jason Momoa, and Nicholaj Coster-Waldau, and some of the cast from BOARDWALK EMPIRE as well. I met lots of very cool people, and was astonished and delighted by how many fans the series -- both the TV series AND the books -- has in Hollywood, even on other networks and series. (Keep a sharp eye out in future weeks for GOT nods on a couple of your favorite comedies).

But now to work. I'm still in LA, and will be here for the rest of the week, but from this point on it's mostly meetings. But more good stuff may come out of those as well... one hopes...

References in other comedies
Given how much Nathan Fillion was name-checking GOT at the ComiCon panels I've seen, and given the show's history of throwing in 'Firefly' references, I'd be willing to bet money that 'Castle' will be one of 'em, even if it's not strictly a comedy.

Falcons won!

Also, yay for Peter Dinklage! My friends and I were thrilled. It was much deserved (as much as a subjective award can be). The show couldn't have been what it was without someone to pull off that role brilliantly.

After the Emmys
I add my congratulations to Mr. Dinklage. And to you, Mr. Martin, I must tell you I found you in a circuitous way - via Mr. Dinklage!

I've always liked his work and when I heard he would have a major role in Game of Thrones, I thought hey, what the hell, I'll give it a try... and I was instantly hooked.

I've now started the books (and so far, what a treat!). And although I was somewhat disappointed that the show didn't win more awards, the competition was stiff, so I get it.

Again, I am enjoying the first book immensely. And since I've come to the party so late in the game, I won't have the apparent trauma of waiting for the next installment for some time, as I now have at least 5 massive tomes to read before becoming rabidly impatient :)

And also: Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Mr. Martin! They had a nice little reminder on today's Writer's Almanac. And congrats on the Emmy nominations and awards! We whooped and hollered when Peter Dinklage won. I think he's been just perfect for the part of Tyrion, aside from being too good-looking!

Congratulations to Mr. Dinklage! Very well-deserved. I knew from the first episode that he would get showered with awards. His win was one of the highlights of the night. Mad Men though, how predictable. But I have a feeling that the show will take off even further next year, so heres hoping! Glad you had a great time anyway. You and the cast looked great in the audience.

I`m guessing Parks and Recreation would be one of the comedies that would nod at GoT? (Since Amy Poehler has referenced her liking for the show a few notable times.) If so, yes yes yes! My favourite series mentioned in my favourite comedy, awesome!

Next up are the Golden Globes in January. GoT will probably get more nominations for that (since the GG tend to be more open towards alternative genres and rookie shows).

But I just want to wish you the most pleasant of Name Days, Ser. May you have many, many more to come!
