Me and Wonder Man

I've done a lot of interviews this past year, but this was the only one that touched on the profound (and hitherto unexplored) influence that Wonder Man and the Avengers have had on my work:

It was great fun being interviewed by John Hodgman (he's a PC). Even if he does think my Not A Blog is medieval. I also got to talk with him a little more at HBO's big post Emmy bash.

((And yes, I am looking forward next year's AVENGERS movie. Even though I think it's an outrage that they left out Ant-Man and the Wasp).

Probably it's just that all the actors they contacted knew they would never be able to live up to Garrett Morris's nuanced interpretation of the character.

Listened to the podcast
Love your books. your comment about "detractors" really reminded me of this weeks Matthew Berry Love Hate column on ESPN.com. Seems the internet can really bring out the mean in people. Anyway I've never commented on your blog before but the angry internet people (in everything i read online) have been kind of getting me lately.

While there is certainly a percentage of over the top behavior, there's also a sort of blunt truthfulness as well that you don't really get any other way. It may not be pleasant to sift through it all, but there's more to be gained that way than by just dismissing all of it out of hand as trolling. If Tolkien were alive, would he dismiss George as an internet troll for what he said in this interview? Maybe so. It would be his loss.

Edgar Wright (director of 'Shaun of the Dead' & 'Hot Fuzz') is bringing Ant-Man to the screen soon from what I hear. If there's an Avengers 2 I'm sure Ant-Man will be included.

"Even though I think it's an outrage that they left out Ant-Man and the Wasp"

I agree wholeheartedly. I love them and as a part of the original founding team they really should be there. I'm thinking that Marvel was worried about the 'cool factor'. :/ I've heard there is still an Ant-Man movie in the works at least, but until I see concrete evidence, I'm trying not to let my hopes get up too far.

This is the best recent interview I've heard you give (circa HBO series & after). Hodgman knows his ASOIAF and it shows in his questions.

Ant-man and Wasp
Nothing says they aren't in it, just smaller or bit parts. 6 main characters in one 2 hour movie is pushing it already.

Unfortunately, my impression is that this is at least partially "The Ultimates", and so Ant-Man & Wasp are not as important to the story. :(

You're probably already aware of this, but just in case not, the "This American Wife" comedy podcast, episode 37, "Your Wildest Dreams (Within Reason)" used the audio of your introduction of the short piece "Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury". It almost sounds like you are blushing, which is an odd thing to visualize next to the things that you've put some of your characters through.

As long as Hawkeye is sufficiently snarky, I think it'll work.

Yes, I always had a soft spot for Simon Williams too. Though Manhunter (the Paul Kirk manhunter) probably had a bigger influence on my own writing.

Simon is awesome, though I am totally a Black Widow fan. Hank and Jan should have been in it!
