Two More Players

No time today to have Froggy pluck his magic twanger and come forth to torment you with more casting hints. He's game, but I have to head out in a half hour or so, to enjoy cocktails on a mesa.

You nailed Lord Karstark, though, so here as a reward are two more recent castings for HBO's second season of GAME OF THRONES.

As Ygritte, we have the lovely ROSE LESLIE, kissed by fire.

Rose is best known for her role in the first season of DOWNTON ABBEY, the British miniseries that scored big at this year's Emmies. She'll make a great addition to our GOT cast. Check out this recent interview with her.

And seeing as how we've added a wildling to the cast, it's only fair that we add a man of Night's Watch too.

Playing Qhorin Halfhand will be SIMON ARMSTRONG.

Simon is a veteran of stage and screen, and another great addition to our cast. Whether or not he is willing to have half his hand chopped off to better portray QHorin remains to be seen...

I agree --- Costuming and Makeup between 'em oughta take care of that! *nods*

I can say that HBO have a great casting crew for this show. Love the choices so far. And Rose is adorable and so full with life!

Any news on the Reeds?
Oct. 17th, 2011 02:08 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm excited to see every one of these casting releases, but I'm definitely most interested in seeing the Reeds... Not normally one to get too worked up over this stuff, but I'm gonna be extreeeemely frustrated if they drop the siblings from the storyline. Nervous to see GRRM say " all the major roles have been cast" since I certainly consider them to be major characters in Bran's storyline.

Simon Armstrong
Although I do not recognize the gentleman he looks perfect; hard, grizzled, intelligent. And Rose is beautiful.
Oct. 13th, 2011 11:55 pm (UTC)
I'm not familiar with either of these actors, but it only took a few seconds of that video for me to know that hearing Ms. Leslie say "You know nothing, Jon Snow" will be absolutely perfect. ^_^ As for Mr. Armstrong, I've no trouble at all seeing him as grizzled, experienced ranger; he also looks like a man who expects his orders to be obeyed so it's an excellent fit.

Already looking forward to the next season like crazy, as the casting just keeps getting better.

Armstrong as Halfhand. That is exactly how I saw him in my head (maybe not as Simon per se) but.... damn, the casting crew is spot on!

I was kind of hoping for Ron Perlman as Qhorin Halfhand, but I'm sure this guy will be great!

Ygritte is gorgeous!!
Oct. 14th, 2011 08:37 am (UTC)
Yeah, she is very nice))
Look forward to see how she would play)

My nerves are increasing every minute!

God, if only Dance with Dragons were translated to spanish!! This is no life!

Simon Armstrong seems awesome for the role, by the way.

I think that Rose is a fantastic actor and a very beautiful woman. Though, I think that she is a bit too pretty for the role of Ygritte, unless the makeup department gets their latex-covered hands on her.

Armstrong, in the other hand (half of that) is quite spot on for Karstark.

I think she is prettier than Ygritte as well...but Jon Snow, aka Kit Harrington, is much hotter than Jon is depicted. But he plays Jon perfectly...and soon he is going to start looking a lot tougher and sexier.

Rose is awesome
Excellent choice for Ygritte. And I was glad to see in 2 of the sitcoms last night(Big Bang Theory and Parks and Rec), Big shout outs to GoT. Long Claw featured prominently in the BBT intro!

Is the spelling of Qhorin based on the old scots use of quh- or qh- where speakers in the south of England would use wh-, making the pronunciation something like "Hwarren"?

Oh my good ser,

All this talk of casting calls and television reminded me of a pressing question I've had for you... do you know Twisters fast food chain? It's in New Mexico and throughout a few other of our great southwestern states. A location of this franchise is the fictional restaurant Los Pollos Hermanos on Breaking Bad, which is set in your backyard! The zesty chicken from LPH looks so good I did some digging and found they film in a real fast food restaurant called Twisters. I remember in the past you've written about your love of breakfast burritos. How do these stack up in your opinion?

I guess this was the real reason Gwen left Downton. She was needed beyond the wall and not as a secretary! xD

I am just so happy and excited that Rose was chosen. I think she will make a perfect Ygritte and I can't wait to see her performance as well as Simon's.
In the future I hope we get to hear some casting news on the Reeds.

Just watched the interview, gotta say, for this girl i would break any vow in a second :) she is adorable!
Oct. 15th, 2011 07:17 am (UTC)
Well done with Rose. She's very charming. Yes, more beatiful than in the books, but I'll let HBO get away with it...this time. Your ratings should go up.

With this casting, your chickens have hatched, George. You can start counting them.

Thank you so much for these tidbits! I was so excited to see the actors for Ygritte and Qhorin, looks like they made really good choices.
By the way, since there's already a debate about it online and no one seems to be able to come up with a conclusive answer, I figured I should ask you: is EYE-gritt really the way to pronounce Ygritte? I know we should all be free to make up our own minds on pronunciation, but since the show seems to have become the closest we have to an official guide...

Lovely Leslie
Grand choice! I can almost see her rapped in fur with spear in her hand. "You know nothing Jon Snow..."
Oct. 16th, 2011 10:00 pm (UTC)
The cast for Ygritte had to be pretty much like "The Red-headed League" Sherlock Holmes story... only there was no ill fated attempt *Sherlock Holmes SPOILER* to rob anything like a bank behind... was there?

Can't wait for season 3.
Kit Harrington is one lucky bastard. Pun intended.

Re: Rose
No... SHE is the lucky one. All girls envy her... lol

It's so nice to hear from Froggy and his magic twanger again - I've just finished "The Armageddon Rag" and I cannot describe how much I've been missing the spirit of the Sixties since that! Lucky for me, my dvd - "George Harrison - Living in the Material World" by Martin Scorsese - arrived last Thursday, just to fill the gap. Thank you, Mr Martin, for your books.

She really looks like a wildling, with a wild beauty. I'm looking forward to see Val and Mance, although I know they're not gonna show up in this season...

And it's a pitty Rose doesn't have crooked teeth. I found that quite charming about Ygritte in the books. =)

Oh, and I have to say that a envy her so much! Not only I love Lord Snow, kit harrington is a dream!
Oct. 25th, 2011 04:38 pm (UTC)
Did she blurted out that there will be a third season for sure...? :)
