Autographs for Texas

Just returned from a quick two-day trip to Dallas, where I flew in to address a national conference of managers from the Hastings bookstore chain. Great fun. The Hastings folks were wonderful hosts, and have done a terrific job of selling my books. A whole bunch of them told me that the midnight launches of A DANCE WITH DRAGONS back in July were a huge success.

No public appearances were on my calendar this trip, but since I don't get to Texas very often these days, I did make sure I did some stock signings for my neglected Dallas readers. So if you're looking for a copy defaced with my illegible scrawl, you will find some at the Barnes & Noble stores at Preston Royal, Lincoln Park, and Los Colinas... for as long as the supply lasts.

I did not, alas, make it to the B&N in Denton, where back in 1996 I had my traumatic encounter with Clifford, the Big Red Dog.

Visit Texas
You do have many Texas fans. I know. I have given several copies of your books to my friends in Houston, Texas.

I sure would love for you to visit Houston (or Dallas, San Antonio, or Austin).

It would be such a treat.

I was watching the "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" episode of Community the other night with the commentary track turned on and they mentioned Game of Thrones and you.

Loved meeting you
I loved being able to meet you at this event! I'll admit... I became a little star struck taking my picture with you and all the questions I had just left me. Hope we get the chance to meet again!

I wish I'd known! I live in Dallas and would have loved the opportunity to meet you and say thank you. Next time!

so many readers and so little time
I had the chance to attend your book defacing event at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY and I can't wait until the next defacing for "The Winds of Winter". I also have to say that I stopped reading books and not just fiction books but all books after college. When I found out about "A Song of Ice and Fire" series from the HBO show Game of Thrones, I went out and bought the first book and devoured it as I did with the next four. While I was waiting for "A Dance with Dragons" I bought all the audio books and absolutely fell in love with Roy Dotrice, and yes I have signed the petition to get Mr. Dotrice to read "A Storm of Swords" wasn't the same without him. But really, I just want to say thank you for bringing that desire and passion to wanting to read back to my life.

I used to work at the B&N in Amarillo, Texas. We aren't a very big store, but we would have loved to have you. So if you're ever looking for somewhere "small-scale" to come, come here! My husband loves you. (In fact, our headboard on our bed is Game of Thrones inspired)

Will you be in Italy at Lucca Comics con, in these days?

not this year
nor probably the next either, schedule already too full. But have fun, write up a report for Westeros, take pictures of people who wear ASoI&F costumes, enjoy!

Sneaking through Dallas!?
Sad Face. I'm sad to hear that you didn't have any public appearances during your Dallas trip. I wasn't able to make it to any of the public events on your recent book tour, so I've been keeping a close eye on your blog hoping to hear word of a trip to Dallas. But I wasn't hoping to hear about a PAST TENSE trip to Dallas!

Yes that's right. I'm using my skills of 'Guilt Trippdom' that my mother painstakingly honed and trained me to use over the course of my lifetime (mostly through example). I hope you've learned your lesson young man. And next time you visit Dallas you better not sneak in and out without saying hello.

(I get that you're a busy man and that you need time to relax. So I'll forgive you this time. You're still my favorite author and the only not a blog that I read daily.)

Denton, Texas
You do have many Texas fans especially librarians like myself in Denton. I now have to start reseraching this Clifford the Red Dog encounter as I'm clueless. However, I once had one of my employees don a bunny outfit from the Max and Ruby series and given the traumatic result from that experience, I can guess the nature of this Clifford story.

It would be fun to see you challenge Clifford to a rematch. The second round might go differently.

Crap!! I wish I had known! I live 15 minutes away from Denton!! :(

Gods be good, it wasn't Clifford's fault, George, it could just as easily have been Snoopy or Scooby Doo or even Spot the Dog... You gotta let Clifford go... Come to think of it, I bet you were thinking of poor ol' Clifford every time that wildling woman mounted another poor, unfortunate dog's head on her banners? lol

I work for Hastings! One of my former coworkers who is a manager in his own store now sent me a picture of the two you that night. Of course my own manager was down there too. Very jealous! Glad you had a good time!

I was at the Hastings event and was able to speak with you briefly regarding Penman, Cornwall, and Hobb. I look forward to tracking down your book recommendation, but they look rare so far.

Suffice to say, you were the talk of our event and the Clifford story will soon travel throughout the Hastings universe. Thanks again.
