Doom and Gloom and Turnovers

Life is meaningless and full of pain.

Ever since I got home from New York City, I have been meaning to post about the great games the Jets and Giants played last weekend. But there was so much else to catch up on, and only so many hours in the day, and I never got around to it.

And after the two games I saw today, it would seem kind of pointless. Neither of the New York teams bothered to show up today. Sad, depressing, gutless performances. I can't believe are really the same teams I watched last week, and the week before.

Next week they play each other. One will win and one will lose, but at this point I hardly think it matters. I don't think either the Giants or the Jets are going to the playoffs. And if next week's winner does sneak in, I fear it will be one and done.

Ah, football. It will break your heart.

Footbals is not a matter of life or death. It's much more important than that.

I'm a fan of the Jets, in general, but I'm going to be rooting for the Giants—both because I despise the Cowboys, and because the Raiders need all the help they can get.

I dislike the cowboys too! I am a Giants fan. But i am
so disappointed in their performance. They are so inconsistent. They seem to show up when they want to. That is not a Superbowl caliber team to me. Giants need to step it up, especially for these next to games.

It could be far worse. You could be a Raider fan. Sigh.

Is it bad that I watch football scores and think, "bad day for GRRM!".

Hockey
I'm curious, good Ser, do you also watch hockey?? If no, it gets quite good throughout the playoffs. The sport is huge up here in the Great White North. Also, a side note, the books are doing well up here - everytime I take the bus, i see at least one person reading one of the 5 (available) books.

It DOES matter to me (who wins next week).

I need the Jets to beat the Giants next week, so that the Giants can beat the Cowboys the week after.

Why? So that the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys all end up 8-8. Eagles then get the division on tiebreaks.

This was a really strange day in the NFL. The Colts win almost at the exact same time the Packers lose, the Chargers destroy the Ravens, Lions clinch their first winning season in more than a decade...

Plus, at the end of the Broncos game, Bill Belichick was overheard telling Tim Tebow, "No, I am your father..." Weird...

Baseball too, for that matter. My team won though, for what it's worth. :-P

Blame the economy. Seriously. That and the massive expense of that new stadium. The teams needed more than they wanted to pay.

Tom Coughlin needs to go. He's a good head coach, but he promised no injuries...

I really want to cheer more for the Jets, but I keep remembering that they are owned by the Johnsons.

I'll be rooting for Blue.

Well, George, clearly what this means is that you have to attend *all* of their games in person. (Bring your laptop so you can write between plays.)

Don't despair for your Giants yet, George. I have zero faith in my Cowboys. The only way my Boys win the division is if, by some miracle, they clinch next week. It won't happen - there's no way they're beating Philly. If the last game of the season means anything, the Giants will win.

Sorry Mr. Martin, but I for one am pleased as punch with the results of yesterday's game.

Now all I need for my beloved Eagles to make the playoffs is:
Eagles beat Dallas
Eagles Beat Washington
Jets Beat Giants
Giants beat Dallas

It's happening, The Dream Team is BACK!

J...E...T...S! JETS, JETS, JETS!
It took a couple of days to get over that defensive collapse in Dallas and this weekend it was great to be a Boys fan. Next weekend I'll be a big Jets fan because the division could still come down to the final game in New York. Philly looks scary again and they crushed Dallas last time. So if Dallas and the Giants both lose this weekend the division will still be up for grabs on the final game of the season. And strangely enough, Philly could STILL win the division if all three teams end up 8-8!

I'm under no illusions that my beloved Cowboys would go very far in the playoffs if they get in. Their secondary remains an Achilles heel that can only be addressed in the off-season. But they have enough offensvive firepower to make a good showing in the postseason.

Next Week!! Jets v Gigantes of the East
Wow, so I think a few weeks ago someone asked who George would root for in a Jets vs. Giants game. Well, we're going to find out this coming week when the two square off in a MUST win for any hope to be in the playoffs. The Jets at 8-6 hold the AFC's last wildcard spot, BUT, with Cincy at 8-6 and a whole slew of teams at 7-7, a loss puts them on the outside looking in. While the Giants are in a similarly sticky scenario trailing behind the Cowboys. This should be an interesting weekend for the Martin household. Crap, there goes another Stark...

Now you will suffer for your divided loyalties! A man cannot serve two masters, and a football fan cannot support two teams!

Yeah, my Ravens lost too. In fact, yesterday was full of surprises (KC???). Maybe it was a full moon. Now, I'm just hoping the Steelers bomb against SF just to keep Baltimore competitive in their division.

On the plus side, at least in week 16 one of your teams is guaranteed a win. But only one...

Who are you going to cheer for when Big Blue plays Gang Green?
