Westeros and the NFL

Everyone in the Seven Kingdoms is excited about the NFL playoffs.

The wildlings and the men of the Night's Watch and even some northmen are all pulling for the Giants, of course. But in the Vale of Arryn and the Mountains of the Moon, they're Falcons fans.

The Lannisters are cheering on Detroit, even if the lion is the wrong color, but some of the smallfolk of Lannisport on its western bay are fond of those 49ers. The High Septon and all the septa and septons and devout of the realm are for the Saints.

The butchers and tanners of King's Landing and Oldtown are behind the Packers, the smiths and armorers are with the Steelers. At the Citadel of Oldtown, the archmaesters and the Conclave are all about the Ravens, but across the narrow sea the khals and Dothraki horselords are screaming and whistling for the Broncos. In Volantis, the tigers are Bengals backers; the elephants are rooting for whoever plays the Bengals.

Nobody anywhere knows what a 'Texan' is, but a few Dornishmen might support them anyway, just to be perverse.

One commonality unites all the Seven Kingdoms, and the lands beyond. Everyone everywhere hates the Patriots, and Evil Little Bill.

Curious - where would my Buffalo Bills befall in Westeros? Not that they'll ever see the playoffs again as Fitzpanic's beard rivals that of Jamie Lannister during his travels....

Especially since Fitzpatrick seemed to have lost his right hand at times.

My last name is patronymic for "son of lion", but I'm a lifelong Giants' fan, so I must be from sort of lost line of northern Lannister.

Go G-men!

I always knew there was a reason King's Landing was my favorite place to read about. :'D

I showed my mother this and she said "I don't read those book, but if they support the Cowboys, they're all right in my book", so there you go.

Very funny George. I am a Bears fan forever but I am hoping the Packers repeat! However, the news of Martz and the idiot Jerry being out of the Bears organization made my day! I know you love the Giants so I am secretly hoping they go all the way!

So naturally...
in true GRRM fashion, the Patriots are going to win the Superbowl. Is the great other a Cowboys fan?

In Volantis, the tigers are Bengals backers; the elephants are rooting for whoever plays the Bengals.

What happens if the Bengals top the Texans? Will the elephants of Volantis hold their noses (trunks?) and have to cheer on the Patriots, or will their aversion to Triarch Belicho Evil Little Bill make them grudgingly support the Bengals?

I'm thinking this is Green Bay's year, though I sure would like to see the 49ers in the Superbowl. Been a good while since they had their last shot at winning the championship (1994, I think, was their last appearance), and a perfect capper to the the turn around Harbaugh's overseen.

You know, it's too bad that my beloved Seahawks aren't in the playoffs. I have a feeling that all those seafaring people would behind them. Oh well, maybe next year.

We live in hope in Seattle and Westeros!

Froggy?!!
Ohmygoodness: Is that Andy Devine's Froggy in the picture above? He and the hamster were childhood faves!

Anyway, no doubt the Iron Men are rooting for the Seahawks. . . .

Pluck your magic twanger, Froggy!

All the Wild Cards books under Tor have had absolutely stellar covers. I'd frame them and hang them on my wall if I could.

Are all these examples digital artwork? It doesn't look like traditional oil on canvas. I miss the fantasy/sci-fi covers of the '70s and '80s. Even the paperbacks had amazing covers.

Any chance you could tell us who’s doing the cover art for Fire and Blood? And maybe when we can expect a glimpse of it. Thank you!
