Westeros and the NFL

Everyone in the Seven Kingdoms is excited about the NFL playoffs.

The wildlings and the men of the Night's Watch and even some northmen are all pulling for the Giants, of course. But in the Vale of Arryn and the Mountains of the Moon, they're Falcons fans.

The Lannisters are cheering on Detroit, even if the lion is the wrong color, but some of the smallfolk of Lannisport on its western bay are fond of those 49ers. The High Septon and all the septa and septons and devout of the realm are for the Saints.

The butchers and tanners of King's Landing and Oldtown are behind the Packers, the smiths and armorers are with the Steelers. At the Citadel of Oldtown, the archmaesters and the Conclave are all about the Ravens, but across the narrow sea the khals and Dothraki horselords are screaming and whistling for the Broncos. In Volantis, the tigers are Bengals backers; the elephants are rooting for whoever plays the Bengals.

Nobody anywhere knows what a 'Texan' is, but a few Dornishmen might support them anyway, just to be perverse.

One commonality unites all the Seven Kingdoms, and the lands beyond. Everyone everywhere hates the Patriots, and Evil Little Bill.

I'd have thought Connington and his ilk would be for the Patriots, or the Spider, at the least

I don't really like football...
I'm not going to rant about the fact football is a misnomer. 1) Football is a different game in 95% of the rest of the world, which in North American is instead called Soccer (as if that makes sense). 2) The human foot probably accounts for less than 5% of contact with the "ball" (see #3).
3) The "ball" is not shaped like a ball at all. It is cylindrical ellipse. Hockey recognizes their hard disc is not a ball, and thusly calls it a puck. Shape up football!

But I am not going to rant about that. Nor am I going to rant about how boring the game is.

Honestly. The way George describes it, it is often an epic battle like the Blackwater or some crushing defeat purpetrated by Evil Little Bill like the REd Wedding.

What he leaves out is all the time people are just standing around waiting fore play to resume. Imagine if the Tyrell forces had paused for a moment and Garlan had taken off the antlered helm he borrowed from Renly.

But I am not going to rant about that either.

Instead, all I want to say is: At least "Football" is better than Quidditch.

PS, I did enjoy finding out who would cheer for what team. I'll also cheer for the Giants.

Beat the Falcons
As a dyed in the wool Browns fan - Beat the Falcons!! Why, because we have their 1st round draft pick and the sooner they lose the higher they will be. In this I am simply a Sell Sword.

In Pentos they don't care about the NFL playoffs . . . .
They care only for soccer.

Dear George.
I apologize to ask such a question, but it's quiet important to me. I've serfed lots of sources, but haven't found all the meanings of the metals according to the maester's coil. Wiki can say about 6 of 17. Could you tell me what science or knowledge each metal means.
Sincerely yours, one of russian fans.

Saints advance..
It was touch & go for awhile, but the Saints came up big in the 2nd half.

Two long drives in the 3rd & 4th quarters + a pick in the middle of the latter lifted them into the Div. Playoffs.

Next week: off to San Fran to face them 49ers.

Well now, I'm almost afraid to think what Shagga is feeding to his goats after the Vale's team was humbled by the fearless Northmen. And while I respect the tanners and butchers, may they spend too much time downwind of the tanning shed this week (rhymes with reek), while the Giants (and Others, of which I'm sure Ser Jason of Pierre-Paul is one) north-and south- of the wall be well rested and ready.

And also may Evil Little Bill send the horselords whimpering all the way back to Vaes Dothrak. Colour me a wildling on this issue--I'm fed up with all this knee-bending nonsense ;)
