Win One, Lose One

So I'm back from LA, once more catching up and digging out.

If you watched the Golden Globe telecast on Sunday, you already know that GAME OF THRONES lost out to HOMELAND in the Best TV Drama category. Ah, well. It IS an honor just to be nominated, of course, and HOMELAND is an excellent series and a very worthy winner. My congrats to their cast and crew... especially to my old friends (scary to realize just how old) Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, the showrunners. Back in the dawn of time, when Vincent ruled the underworld and dinosaurs roamed the earth, Alex and Howard and I all worked together on the writing staff of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. If we had to lose, I'm glad it was to "the Lads" and their show.

And GOT had its taste of victory too: Peter Dinklage won for Best Supporting Actor, for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister. A well deserved win over a stellar group of actors.

So... one win, one loss, but a great day, even for those of us who were "differently victorious" (to steal a line from Michael Cassutt). I got to walk the red carpet with my lady Parris, meet Paul Giamatti and Steve Buscemi, visit with Amy Poehler, party with David and Dan and Peter and Emilia and Bryan, not to mention lovely Lisa Bonet and sensational Stana Katic. And Jason Momoa almost twisted my head off. ((I really need to find some way to bring Khal Drogo back from the dead, I do, I do)) That doesn't happen every day.

Don't you see how simple it would be? Un-UnDrogo.

Since you and the other writers have already set the scene for adding in scenes not from the book. (See what I did there? ;) ) And they had a whole bunch of time together that wasn't necessarily written about/shown you could use flashback sequences or memory sequences or what have you to bring him back.

I was pleased that Mr. Dinklage won, sorry that GoT didn't, and unfortunately we don't get "Homeland" here in Montreal (at least not from our cable people Videotron, maybe Bell has it).

Yes, please DO bring Khal Drogo back from the dead, even if only in a dream sequence! Yum!

Well, the sun has already set in the East, so here's hoping you actually bring Drogo back some way :)

I'd like to meet Steve Buscemi! ;)

I'm all for somehow reviving Drogo, such a marvelous character. :)

This past year, many a great show (Thrones included) have been up for the drama tv category.

I imagine at some point over the 5+ year run of the series (let's hope HBO sticks with it to the end. And by that, I mean the 'proper ending', as what will happen in book 7, Dream of Spring.) there will more and more nominations to come, and more awards too.

Congratulations on the win, commiserations on the loose. Sounds like you had a great time; I cant wait to hear more goss. (I definitely wouldn't mind having my head nearly twisted off by Jason Momoa!)... and yes yes yes you must bring Drogo back to life one way or another!! ..even if its just a flashback dream... or a delicious hallucination *clutching at straggly soapy straws* ..or an evil twin? lol

We cheered when we saw Dinklage won the award. We were disappointed that GoT didn't win, but there'll be other chances at the Golden Globe. Also, I didn't know that Homeland's team used to work with George on B&B. Small world!

Far as Khal Drogo the book character goes... hmmm... he's actually not a very nice person, you know. I wouldn't invite him over for dinner. Just sayin'

But Jason Mamoa, yes, let's cast him as another character and have him back on the show! :)

How to bring back Khal Drogo in two words: ghost. visions.

Congrats on the win!

I know you aren't big on fan theories, but this would be for the show not for the books, and you did bring it up! The White Walkers could turn out to be the spirits of true warriors who did not die in combat. Now they have a Khal. The appearance of the Others is quite different on the show, so he could still look like Drogo while he kicks Jon Snow's derriere.

Getting Momoa back in the mix is easy! It would also remedy my dislike of Daario. Give Momoa some blue hair and a shower, and vee-ohla, instant Drogo-to-Daario remix. Would certainly explain Dany's infatuation...and give the character new life for me. Because, well, everyone knows how important it is to cater to my needs. Everyone. Seriously.

Congrats to all involved for getting some recognition! Looking forward to even better season coming up.

Howard Gordon is a man who gets around town... Folks I know have worked with him in his Buffy / Angel era. He's responsible for some great stuff, come to think of it.

Congrats - Between awards and red carpets and book tours and the sets you couldn't visit, I'll bet your life is feeling very "So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it" lately. I'm glad the balance between home and travel is being found.

never even watched homeland... and i'm sure the script looks pretty dry compared to what they end up with in GOT

Lol I love how everyone is suggesting ways to bring him back. So I need to contribute.

What?! :p

I hope GOT will get the award next season! :)
And Peter Dinklage is amazing as Tyrion, we're very happy he got the award.

Great words, sir, and truly, Homeworld is a worthy series to loose to

In a few series I've read, some of the characters killed off are the most memorable. I wonder how memorable they would be if they hung around well after they were useful to the plot.

But it would be fun to read about {redacted}, the {redacted} family, {redacted} would have been a great POV character, and {redacted} was so great his time was too short in the book.

Can you bring back all the {redacted} {redacted}s?

Welcome Home!
Congrats on the GG win – however I am not happy that my fav show did not win Best TV Drama. If I may borrow a quote -- to those who did not have the good sense to vote for GOT: “I am the great and powerful Turtle. You assholes are up shit creek. Surrender now.”
Looking forward to Season II and we will get ‘em next year!

little finger
I always thought Giamatti would have made an excelling Little Finger. Although probably in the beginning, before the general public and Hollywood knew it would be this huge, he wouldn't have been a viable option.

I think everyone loves flashbacks! As Drogo climbed the ranks to become Khal he happened to do some major craziness that forever altered some event in Westeros and Bran just felt the need to watch it all from a nearby tree

.....that or its time for a Dunk and Egg style spin off on Drogo. I don't think you have too much else going in your life where you couldn't put something on the plate.

All the Wild Cards books under Tor have had absolutely stellar covers. I'd frame them and hang them on my wall if I could.

Are all these examples digital artwork? It doesn't look like traditional oil on canvas. I miss the fantasy/sci-fi covers of the '70s and '80s. Even the paperbacks had amazing covers.

Whatever anyone can get their hands on is, I suspect, the right answer.

At the last party, it was an open bar with pretty much everything you can imagine on offer. There were some special drinks as…

Any chance you could tell us who’s doing the cover art for Fire and Blood? And maybe when we can expect a glimpse of it. Thank you!
