Super G-Men!!!!

Life is magical and full of joy!

What a game. What a bloody great game. THIS is what football is supposed to be like. Real smashmouth kickass old-fashioned duel to the death. DAMN but that 49ers defense played great. I don't think I have ever seen Eli take such a hammering, but he kept getting up and fighting on. And my man Cruz was magnificant as well... though the Niners obviously made adjustments at the half to clamp down on him, or else the win would have been much more lopsided.

The Giants D played great as well. They did not get nearly as many sacks on Alex Smith as I had expected/ hoped for, but they kept him under constant pressure, held Gore in check for the most part, and stifled the 49er receivers... well, except for those two times when Vernon Davis got loose.

But it was turnovers that won the game. Turnovers, and Big Blue's special teams. I never could have called that. Our special teams have been a weakness all years. Weatherford's a decent punter but not a great one. Ditto the Scottish Kicker (bad luck to say his name). And we get NOTHING on kickoff returns or punt returns. But it was the coverage teams, and the turnovers we got on those two punts, that made the difference in the end... and once again the Scottish Kicker came through! (My heart did stutter a little when we got that stupid delay-of-game penalty just before the FG attempt, adding five yards to the distance).

Who would ever have thought it? Not me, I admit. Not after that four game losing streak in mid-season and that dreadful December defeat by the Redskins. But then something funny happened. The Real Giants showed up.

So now we're off to Indy, and a rematch of SuperBowl XLII with the Patriots and Evil Little Bill. Why, it's like an epic fantasy... the heroes from NYC against the Dark Lord and his minions.

But that's two weeks away. Right now, I'll just enjoy the win. And hats off to the 49ers too. They had a great season, and Jim Harbaugh deserves all the credit in the world for turning that team around. I think they will be contenders for years to come.

Wow, what a game. Being a giants fan myself, I can't remember a game where I felt so tense. There was just about zero movement on offense, and that usual feeling I get about Eli in the 4th quarter sure was thwarted by that nasty niner's defense.

This game felt to me as if the Giants had survived, rather than won, but a win is a win. And I sure can't wait to try and beat the Pats again!

Four incredible teams and two great games today, but I have to say that the Giants have that feel of something extra. Here's to Cruz'in along.

Brutal game to watch, two tough teams dukeing it out but yeah,Giants just had the edge partly because Eli can convert 3rd downs.

Congratulations on your team's victory, George. They played hard and they played well. Enjoy the Super Bowl. Watch out for next year, though.

We're comming for you. We have a score to settle. We won't be denied this time.

Pats 27, Giants 20.

Pity us poor fools in the UK who, for some bizarre reason, stopped getting our sunday night football game on Channel 4 about 3 weeks ago, so we've totally missed the entire build up to the superbowl.

I'll be rooting for the Pats, but if they play the way they did yesterday, the Giants will roll right over them. Either way, should be a good game!

Congrats George!

I'll call it right now, the Giants will win the Super Bowl and I don't think it will be a 3 point squeeker.

The coverage was good, but I think the fumbles are Williams fault. The first one, he shouldn't have been near a bouncing ball. The second one, he ran Deion Sanders style with the ball in front of him instead of tucked in. While the Giants guy made a nice tackle, the tackler didn't go for the ball, the ball was just at the wrong place.
Great game by the Giants though, both teams deserved it.

Thank you for calling Bill evil
If you were any other author, I'd say that you were counting on the power of "good" to win out over "evil." But with how poorly the "good guys" tend to do in your books, I think Brady and "Evil Little Bill" should be all right. Particularly if winter comes to Indy in time for the game -- Brady does well in the snow.

Just please put writing Winds on hold for the duration of the game. A few hours should be enough. If (when) the Pats beat the Giants, you might kill off a few Starks in retaliation -- and there aren't enough of them left! ;)

manning forced the ball to Cruz too much
In the 2nd half Manning had a number of incomplete passes when he forced to ball to Cruz when he was double covered. I understand Nicks was hurt and was probably just a decoy, but he has other receivers. If the Giants lost the game, I think there would be criticism of him for that.

With 30 seconds left in the game and the giants at the 50 on 3rd down, Manning had Manningham open for a first down and heading toward the sideline, but he forced the ball to Cruz who was double covered down field. The giants only need about 20 yards for a field goal attempt, so a 5-8 yard gain by Manningham who probably would have gotten out of bounds would have worked.

I think Manning sometimes forgets about his other recievers. He decides that Nicks or Cruz are his favorites and then teams adjust and double them. He should spread it out more when that happens. If Cruz or Nicks are getting doubled, it means others like Ballard or Manningham are getting guys farther down the list of cover guys on them.

That being said. Rain, no running game, constant pressure. NO TURNOVERS. GREAT New England Pass coverage. Manning did great. However, I think they should look at tape more. I think teams are seeing that Manning decides he has a favorite that day and will adjust. Belichek is too good of a coach.

I think the Superbowl will be a shoot out. Its in a dome. Brady does alot of short routes that can negate a pass rush. Giants pass rush is good. Its not 2007 good. And the Patriot defense playing well against the Ravens and Broncos does not impress me. I think the Superbowl will be really high scoring.

redskins players in the game
I now live in Northern Virginia, outside Washington DC. 2 Former redskins who were let go were key in that game.

Carlos Rogers who was a pro bowler (and GREAT against the Giants)
Devin Thomas: Has become one of the best Special Teams gunners in the NFL. Its not just his fumble recoveries. He does a great job getting downfield. The giants coverage on special was terrible last year.

Danny Snyder's head must be exploding. Especially with Rogers who was solid, but not great for them and this year has been absolutely outstanding. I know people who have worked for Snyder and he is a jerk. So this makes me happy.

Mr. Martin, considering the sequence of events, and the nearness in time of the rematch; the Giants are the villians. Hopefully this does not play out like your books where the evil guys win. Go Patriots!!! I was also wondering if you saw the Visa commercials where the Ravens fan forced the Pats fan to wear a Ravens helmet in order to go to the Superbowl... JUSTICE!!!
