That's great to hear! I already pre-ordered it awhile back, so I've been hoping the reviews would be good. On Amazon you even get a really neat art book for pre-ordering. I also heard that Game Informer gave it a good review, and that they are usually quite brutal. Can't wait!

Quite brutal? According to Metacritic, they review 63% of games higher than the average critic. Anecdotally, I have noticed that they hand out probably four or five 9+ reviews every month, sometimes to games that hardly warrant such scores.

This isn't to cast doubts on the upcoming GoT RPG, but to say that Game Informer is about the last publication I'd listen to no matter what it ends up saying.

Ah, I didn't know. A friend told me that Game Informer was known to be harsh on RPGs. Guess I should have checked into it myself!

I find Metacritic ratings to be a pretty decent guide to overall game value. I also tend to go check out forum comments directly from owners of the games if I have my doubts. Steam is very useful for that.

Game Informer is crap, really. It's owned by Gamestop so they tend to give high reviews to publishers they're well funded to/connected to, etc.

In other words: don't trust them.

That is accurate.

*sigh* So either a game you really liked got a low score in the past or the opposite happened. Yes Gamestop is a corporation and as such has the stated goal of making money, which it does quite well without having to get payed off by any publishers.

And for the record, reviews equate to merely opinions.

When it comes down to it reviews of anything are merely the opinions of people. I say if you're interested in the game give it a go.

Games that don't warrant the score in your opinion. Someone else's opinion could vary. Basically what I say is if a particular publication gives a score you don't like just search around for one you do. Easier than reading the actual review apparently.
