No News Is ... No News

Lately I've been getting a lot of emails asking me for the latest news about HBO and their prospective adaptation of A GAME OF THRONES.

I appreciate the interest, really, but there is no news. No good news. No bad news. No news of any sort. With much of Hollywood presently shut down because of the writer's strike, I can't even say when there will be news.

I try to keep my fans and readers updated on everything that's happening -- with this and with all my other projects -- here on my Not-A-Blog, and on the News page of my website. If there was any news worth reporting, you'd read it there. Honest.

Meantime, check out this YouTube video that was recently brought to my attention:

No, it's not from HBO, it's not for an actual film. It's a labor of love that one of my readers put together, all unbeknownest to me, using clips from other films. It's really cool, however. I don't know about you guys, but I'd buy a ticket.

Is it sad the things that really stuck out were the grammar and spelling errors in that trailer?

That was some amazing editing.

However, I feel like the world's biggest dork because I recognized -every- scene that was cut from LOTR.

....I'm going to go watch Die Hard now, to make myself feel better about my perpetual nerditude.

(Also I feel bad, because I dragged my boyfriend to Golden Compass, having read the series several times (he's not yet read it), and had such high hopes for the movie, having not read any reviews. Yeah. I owe him several "man movies" for taking him to that horrible piece of film making. I was wretchedly disappointed in the whole thing, and if the same people are even remotely planning on doing Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass, I have no intent on going. I'll keep the books' wonderful imagery to my own mind, thanks and have a nice day.)

Hey, I recognized all the scenes too. LOTR kicks (pirate) booty!

I liked it, though I'm not sure who the blonde girl with the sword is supposed to be... Bizarro Arya? Pretty Brienne?

Absolutely brilliant!

Sad that the real thing is stuck at the moment :'(

Anowyn-- I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be Arya, given the heart trees and direwolf pups :)

I totally appreciate the time and effort put into that trailer. Your choices of music and clips drew me in and intrigued me, even though I know the trailer is pieced together from other movies.

This old broad would buy a ticket too.

Good job, Castle Black.

That was an amazing fan trailer! It got me all revved up :)

That was hyperbolically awesome. Kudos to the makers, for their film, and for applying their talents to such a worthy subject. Cheers!

If I'm not misinformed HBO's two new shows completely tanked in 2007. Meanwhile, the Sopranos is over and Showtime is doing pretty well with the Tudors.

I'd say its a good bet that HBO will go forward with the series. If they don't there's no chance I'll be a subscriber again anytime soon.

John in Cincinnati did. Flight of the Conchords (for my money the best new thing on HBO) was nominated for a Golden Globe and was renewed for a second season. Unless there was another one you were talking about.

It's saddening that the writers' strike more or less closed the faucet from which sprang much of what we love and cherish and put a stop to a great deal of creative projects, including the development for AGOT. But even as an outsider I can understand the motivation behind it. We can only hope that the parties will, at some point, reach an understanding that approximates their respective expectations and pick up their work with renewed energy.
We'll wait and keep our eyes and ears open for news. In the meantime: Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family!

They did it right. You know how I know they did it right? Because I found myself thinking "say it. Say it. Say it!"

"Winter is coming."

Shivers, I tell you.

Wow! Fantastic.

Yep, I had a moment of fangirlish squee when 'Winter is Coming' came up on the screen.

Great video! Wow, it's going to be so bloody cool seeing the real thing, isn't it? I'm very excited!

I don't even care if it takes ages. *grin* Sweet anticipation, right?

(That goes for Dance, too!)

Trailer, HBO, Steelers and George for the love of God tell me you gave authorization for .......
That trailer was awesome. Especially since a fan did it by themselves. Good cut scenes and even better music. That just shows that some people can grasp or at least get right visually waht we have been reading. I have read many reports on the HBO problem. I hope it goes through and would hope the scope of it could be incorporated correctly while staying true to the novels.

Ok, ok .. your right about Pennigton, but only because he is the only viable option you guys have at the moment. Major rebuilding needs done with you franchise, But I have no clue how in the hell they beat my Steelers. That loss could truly have sent us into a downward spiral. By the looks of it, since then we can't get our feet under us.

Last but not in the least .... I know this may sound rude or that I am lacking in couth (sp?) and I truly truly do not mean it in any way like that, but I have to ask what I am sure some readers out there have thought: With the recent passing of Robert Jordan I was curious if that struck at your own mortality and perhaps a parellel on your own work? To my knowledge, the great series that he started will now never be finished and many are left wondering what would be. Do you or have you made any plans in case of something tragic were to happen or if you were to fall ill, concerning your work?? Once again, I truly am not trying to sound selfish. I was just curious about your thoughts on your work etc....

Re: Trailer, HBO, Steelers and George for the love of God tell me you gave authorization for .......
George has several times in the past stated that we are, so to speak, out of luck (he puts it in choicer terms) if he doesn't complete the series.

As to RJ, Brandon Sanderson will be completing the final book, having been hand-picked by Jordan's wife (and editor) Harriet in accordance with his wishes.
