Back from Montana

Back home again from Missoula, Montana, where I spent the weekend as GOH at Miscon 26.

'twas my first trip to Montana, and I can't say I really saw much of it, but Missoula was a pleasant little city, and the con itself was great. They drew 1300 people, I'm told, a record for Miscon, and I think all of them had a great time. I know I did. Miscon fen party like we did in the old days, and the hotel -- Ruby's, a small indy with local ownership -- was really great. None of the nonsense with noise complaints and shutting down parties and elevators that has plagued so many cons of late. In fact, some of the hotel management partied with us.

So a tip of the hat to Justin, Cthulhu Bob, Clay, and the rest of the Miscon Miscreants, and to Tim, Dustan, and Vicky from Ruby's. You were great.

Ice and Fire Update
Welcome home George! I hope you've had time to revel in the commendations for Sundays episode!

In the years leading up to the release of ADwD I would frequent the Ice and Fire Update section. I noticed there is still the 'Done' post...any chance you'd put something up there, anything, even a simple word like 'writing'? It's fun to see stuff there. And since I'm asking also maybe a sample chapter for Winds? And start working on your Emmy speech for best drama. Mad Men will be de-throned by Thrones!

Re: Ice and Fire Update
There's been a sample chapter from WINDS OF WINTER up on my website for many months now.

Glad you're back ...
... safely.

Congrats on "Blackwater" - it was the best episode this season in terms of respecting the source material. It also was the best paced of any of the episodes, too. Season 2 has seemed rushed this year. I'm glad that next year, aSoS will be split between Seasons 3 and 4. Admittedly, I was worried that Tyrion hadn't started his chain in earlier episodes, but I'm thrilled that you addressed that omission cleverly - I hardly noticed it was missing. Kudos.

I am a bit worried that Dany's adventure in the House of the Undying might be pared back for time or moved off to Season 3, Episode 20 looks to be very busy. A viewer must have faith.

Again, grats on Episode 19!

Seven blessings on you George! By the Lord of Light you sure are a busy man. I hope you enjoyed the final cut of your collaboration with Neil Marshall- I know the masses did! I wish the ratings had been higher- but Memorial Day Weekend and NBA Finals pretty much explains that away.

I really hope to see you and Neil collaborate again- maybe for RW? That would be a dream come true- although I can't imagine how difficult writing that script would be for you!(simply from an emotional standpoint, just as you've stated about writing the chapter)

Thanks for being you!

Let's do that again!
Miscon loved having you, and now you understand why I, like many others, drive 8 hours to attend. Unlike many pros, you know how to party.

I hope to have the chance to enjoy your company again.

It was great to see you there! Lots of fun...one of the best Miscons I've experienced in the four years I've been going.

I just wanted to say that I LOVE your books, thank you so much for writing them! I'm "forcing" everyone I know to read A Song Of Ice And Fire, I get them hooked by giving them the first book as a present for their birthday and after that it's like a drug, they *need* to keep reading! :-) I also read some of your short SF stories and it's confirmed, I love your style, stories and characters. I do hope to meet you some day :-). Once again, thank you ^_^.

Welcome back. I am glad to hear that everyone, including the hotel staff, had an excellent time.

That's . . . 2% of the population of Missoula.
If by "party like we did in the old days" you mean people aren't asleep by 2 a.m., but still talking and partying for hours, maybe I'll go to a Miscon.

Glad to hear you had a great time, welcome back! I also want to thank you for the Blackwater episode, by the way .. It's my favorite episode of the second season by far! I especially loved the wildfire & badass battle scenes -- especially the Stannis bits ♥

Glad you had a great time! Recently I finished Dance With Dragons, and am all caught up with the main Ice and fire books...looking forward to the remaining volumes, as well as Dunk and Egg material. The season finale for Game of Thrones is a few days away (love the title for it) as is the soundtrack release. Base don the tracklisting, i have a good diea on how the season will end... I'd written you a letter that you shall receive sometime in June via your publisher.

Reading at Miscon
First off, the episode "Blackwater" blew me away. :). It exceeded my own imagination at the point where they show off the CGI. (the deck vanishing from beneath a certain character's feet gave me the chills and left me on my knees looking for my jaw).
I had some questions around why Stannis was first out the boat and up the ladder, all without helmet, yet I feel I shouldn't ask. Wasn't critisism, but more questions directed toward Stannis from the books and if the series were "cannon" at all. I love the character Stannis in the books almost as much as I love Theon and Jaime, and this episode just made me love him even more.
That being said, you're a cruel man for getting me to invest in a character that's so thinly armoured against the other, more prominent characters (possibly a distant relative).

Anyways, I saw this post, went to Miscon's website and noticed they'd planned a reading. I'm not so much a "niggard" as I'm far away from Montana (I live in Europe) and in the middle of my exams, so I couldn't be there. I was wondering if there is a way that we can hear/read the chapter you've read.

Sorry for bothering you with the question and the lenghty post.
I'm very enthralled by your writing and I thank you for the many, many adventures you've given me.

Edit: One last thing. A few of us in the bowels of internet, down in the dirty lower classes of forums, agreed that if you were ever to play a part in the HBO series, you should be one of the musicians at The Twins. Looking straight in the camera and smiling before playing your part. :)

Thanks for visiting MT!
It was great to have you here in Missoula. I wish that you had been able to see more of our great state. Maybe you will come visit us again. Did you get a chance to taste the mead? I hope you liked it. Enjoy your down time at home, and thanks again! My mom loved her signed birthday book!

Wish I'd known you were going to be there. I would have planned a trip up to MT to see my family and you!
