Safe in Spain

San Diego Comicon was great fun... but exhausting beyond belief. Somehow I survived, however. Spent all day Sunday on airplanes crossing the Atlantic, and today finds me, jetlagged and weary, in Madrid. I arrived in the morning and slept all day. Just ate some dinner, and am about to go to bed again. By tomorrow morning I should be well-rested for my trip to Aviles.

See you all at CELSIUS!!!

I speak a little Spanish. I Googled habia un oso, and was delighted to see the Spanish version of the bear and the maiden fair. The translator did a boss job on that one.

Paella is a wonderful, traditional Spanish dish I am sure you are well familiar with as a gourmet and world traveler, but in the event you are not, you should give the real stuff a try as it's quite the Experience. It's best cooked outside, in the sunshine... I am having flashbacks of '06 when I did my southern Europe tour. I am making myself salivate!

Bienvenido Mr. Martin
Although I can not come see you, nice to have your presence in our country. As you know the winter has been installed in our "bull hide" in the form of crisis. Your books and series help us forget for a moment.

An apology and a few questions
It seems I owe you an apology, Ser. I had mistaken the timeline of events at the end of "A Clash of Kings." I had thought (erroneously) that King Joffrey's wedding happened at the end of that book. However, I still take issue with three things in the HBO series.

First, why was Tyrion's chain eliminated from the story? It was extremely important, given that it was why Stannis's fleet could not reverse course and simply make landfall upriver.

Second, why the dramatic license with Robb's marriage, which took place in "A Storm of Swords?" His wife was Jeyne Westerling, a daughter of an old house sworn to the Lannisters in the book. She was not just some Myrish(?)camp follower nursemaid with no name!

Third, and I know you may have answered this elsewhere, but I am curious. Why doesn't Tyrion have the mismatched eyes in the TV show? Does Peter Dinklage have some problem with wearing colored contacts, or was it just a detail that the producers decided to overlook?
