Website Revamp

By popular request... a complete redesign and revamp of my website debuted today.

Same content. New look. More bells, more whistles, more functionality (we hope).

There will be a few bumps as we ease through the transition, but we should have everything smoothed out and running well before too long.

Let us know your thoughts.

Great New Look
The new website looks GREAT !

However, is there still going to be a section where we can read the sample chapters?

A compliment, a bug and a wish :)
Hi George,

I really like it. I access your website not very often, usually once a month, and it just happened that I checked in now! To be honest, I thought I had gone to the wrong website, to some HBO page that got automatically populated in Firefox when I typed "geor...", but then I went to the blog and read this entry... I really like the new look, it deserved it!

As I'm trying to provide some constructive feedback, I did a quick "testing", and found that in IE, the button for "Merchandise" (from the upper menu) moves one line below when zoom is at 100%. It gets corrected when in lower or higher values. It does not reproduce in Firefox or Chrome. Maybe others will join and collaborate with a QA testing work ad honorem :)

Finally, something to add to the wishlist. It might be that it's there and I can't find it, but if not, could you please upload the podcasts you recorded? They are 8 episodes, where you talk about your writer's experience. I found them in the Android market, I think they are great, and they deserve to be in your website for others to know them :)

As someone else said already, keep up the great work!

Best,
Daniel, from Rosario, Argentina

Hmm
Seems nice, I do like having the News feed on the front page, but I've been visiting for years. Going to take some time to get adjusted to the new format. There really were people complaining about the layout of the front page? lol Didn't bother me, just wanted to get to News, Not a Blog, and update/preview sections. ;)

Looks great
I try to check out the site from time to time, I guess I picked a good time to do it. The old site worked well enough but it's had the same look for at least ten years, no? I remember checking it out when I was still in high school and my ten year reunion is coming up in July.

Sample Chapters?
Looks really nice, but I can't seem to find the sample chapters for Ice & Fire and Wild Cards though.

Looks and feels slick and more modern. I think it's a neat upgrade, personally, though I didn't think there was anything wrong with the site before the upgrade.

Also, I like the general tone of Parris's page. Very heartfelt and loving. :)

it's missing my favourite part
i've been hanging around your blog and website since 2007 and what i have always kept an eye out for were the song of ice and fire updates and samples. either your webdesigners forgot to keep that content or it was intentional. or maybe i'm blind and can't find it. i don't know. all i can say is that i miss it. a lot^^

your new website looks really nice and modern, and of course it fits your new ice and fire theme. but at the same time it feels cold and distant. your old webdesign was... old, yes. but it was charming, playful and had personality. i really liked that.

how many men can say they have a rose-colored website that both men and women visit very often?

well. all in all i'd say the new webdesign was a success. but the "same content"-part doesn't seem to be quite true ;D

New Website
Love it George,
It look really well and is easy to navigate. Will enjoy exploring.

Thank you for writing this wonderful, rich and complex story. It's the sign of a truly great saga when you enjoy discussing it as much as you enjoy reading it. So engaging it can be read again and again, and each time more of the details reveal themselves and add to the speculation and delight.

Can't wait to read 'The Winds of Winter', the cliffhangers are nearly killing me!

Once again, thank you.

Maria
