Back From LA

Just back from a week in LA.

I did Conan (the O'Brien, not the Cimmerian) and the Today Show, and taped a segment for a BBC special about Machiavelli... along with the usual dozen or so meeetings.

Also, while in town, swung by the Bookstar in Studio City and signed all their stock of my books, which was considerable. So if you're an Angeleno or just visiting LA, and want to snag an autographed copy of one of my novels, get yourself to Studio City while the supply lasts.

And now I'm back in the land of wolves and savage dust storms, digging out from under.

I happened to see your post last June about the monkeys remaining on your back. I was glad to see that it looks like you've got almost all of them off! (In addition to The Winds of Winter, just Old Venus, the Poul Anderson story, and The World of Ice and Fire are left?) Congratulations on your progress, I wish you luck with what remains!

Re: Monkeys
OLD VENUS is almost done. Waiting for one last rewrite to come in. The Poul Anderson folks have decided to move ahead without me (I don't blame them, they were amazingly patient). WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE is coming together as well, at least as regards the text; still a ton of art to come in. That will leave only Kong and the new Wild Cards, HIGH STAKES. ((Fingers crossed))

Re: Monkeys
Glad to hear that your plate is emptying bit by bit. I remember you saying last year that Winds won't be out this year (2012 at the time) or next year (2013) but you hope to have it published in 2014. As a writer, I hope that happens for you, in the sense of meeting your deadlines. And now for how that ties into part b) of my comment....
My short story I'm planning for submission, I've had to push back from March to October of this year....not a fun feeling, but it will be better in the end. Yet, I don't want to take too much time on it. You don't have to reply about Winds here, heck I'm not expecting you to. But I hope you're able to get your goal, and as a (aspiring) writer, I'm beginning to glimpse things as you see them.
I truly hope you'll get to read my series someday. I plan to finish writing the first draft of Volume one no later than August 6, 2016....which is 20 years after a significant event in fantasy ;)

Re: Monkeys
Plus (someday) the next Dunk and Egg story? Anyway, congrats on your impressive progress, I'm glad you got rid of all those little monkey beasts.
