Marathon Begins

The GAME OF THRONES marathon begins tonight at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, at 7pm.

It's first come, first seated, and we have only 125 seats, so get there early if you want to be sure to get in.

You won't be the first in line, though.  That honor goes to these brave souls, who camped out overnight (and it was COLD last night):

Tonight we will be screening the first three episodes of season one: "Winter Is Coming," "The Kingsroad," and "Lord Snow."

Admission is FREE.

We will have plenty of GAME OF THRONES merchandise on hand, along with pizza, soft drinks, candy, ice cream, pastries, burritos, and our famous popcorn, the best in New Mexico.  And... for the first time... tonight the Jean Cocteau will be offering BHEER!

See you there!

Whew.  That was fun.

Huge crowd.  We filled every seat.  We could have filled two more theatres the same size as the Jean Cocteau.  The show started at 7:00 pm and we opened the door by 6:00 to get folks in from the cold... but no one who got in line after 5:30 made it inside.  My apologies to all of you who got turned away.  Better luck next week.  Those who did get in had fun, I think.  The show, as expected, looks great on the big screen.

Next week (Jan 13) we hope to have one of our cast members joining us via Skype.  And the week after... drum roll, please... MAISIE WILLIAMS will be joining us in person right here in Santa Fe.  That's Monday, January 20.   Mark it down on your calendars.

Excited about the beer!

I so wish I could be there. You are awesome for putting this on for the fans!

Curious, are you presenting the show in 4K resolution? (the same resolution that theaters normally play feature films) or 1080p (same as on TV)?

Wish I lived there! That would be so awesome to hang out with fellow fans!

Why do i have to live in Australia!?!? :(

Are you coming to visit OZ anytime soon? Id like to get my book signed and discuss the series with the creator himself! Australia doesn't have any conventions or screenings like the USA does, is killing me!!

Uh... I just got back from Oz. Cons in Brisbane and Adelaide, appearances and signings in Sydney and Melbourne.

*breaks down and cries*

Hahahaha! Next time you come, if you ever plan on re-visiting, give me a shout out. I'm an aspiring writer myself, and would love to talk you even briefly.

there were announcements on GRRMs website
George mentioned it here on the blog, the cons and the publisher did promotions of George's appearances before we traveled to Australia.

Given the amount of time and effort required to get there and back, it's going to be a few years before we consider doing it again.

Too slow Tom
If i had discovered George's blog sooner i would have known. I must admit its disappointing to know i missed it. Although, when i take a trip to America ill be sure to look out for any conventions or appearances. I'm already excited haha. Thanks anyway.

Re: there were announcements on GRRMs website
When will you two come to Philadelphia???

Sometimes I think I have a better chance of seeing the Nazgûl rehearse in the City of Brotherly Love than seeing George in person.

missed it by that much

Oh, Tom.

Maisie too! Wish I could meet Arya Underfoot...
Such a great idea to present the Game of Thrones series on the big screen! I hope the folks in attendance are appreciative of the gifts you offer GRRM! What a sweetie you are. Very cool to hear Maisie Williams will be there on JAN 20. Coincidence...I am on my first reread of A Storm of Swords and just finished the heart wrenching chapter wherein Arya is recognized by Harwin at the Inn. Super powerful writing! Aw, wish I could be there, oh well, good times to one all who can attend!

Sounds like a great event. Over the Christmas holiday I finally let my son try to watch Game of Thrones. Austin wasn't quite ready for the violence, nudity or sexual content when Season 1 aired, but he seemed ready now. I thought we'd take our time with the existing episodes, leading up to the release of Season 3 on DVD and the Season 4 premiere, but he was instantly hooked. We finished Season 1 in about two days time (mainly because he would greet the ending of each episode with exclamations of "What the hell!? What happens next?"). School is back in session now, but we'll probably get through Season 2 this coming weekend.

To put a cap on it all, he's even interested in reading the books now. You have no idea what a huge decision that is for him. He really, really, really HATES reading fiction. So, my thanks for giving us Westeros to share with each other. Can't wait for the new season and the new book. Austin also sends his regards and appreciation.

What now? Game of Thrones on the big screen AND MAISIE? I wanna cry now :( sometimes you don't wanna know what you are missing^^. Well congratulation on the success and you better prepare for an even bigger crowd when Maisie is coming. I must say she's one of the few people in the world I really get all fan- girlie :) I assume I'm not the only one ;)

Saw the news coverage George, looked like an awesome turn out and overall great event. I couldn't see it on the site, but was Game of thrones screened in 35mm or digitally if you know? I'm sure you guys will do something awesome for season premieres and finales at these events. Also, hope you and Parris had a great Christmas and New Year's.

Digital. We do have 35mm projectors at the Cocteau, but the shows are not available in that format.
