The Wolves Are Coming

Arya Stark may have been parted from her direwolf Nymeria, but come Monday in Santa Fe she'll be meeting two new wolves.

Maisie Williams won't be the only guest at Monday's GAME OF THRONES marathon session at the Jean Cocteau Cinema.  Our friends from the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary down in Candy Kitchen will be on hand as well, and they'll be bringing two of their "wolf ambassadors" to meet Maisie and the fans.

Parris and I have long been supporters of the Sanctuary, dedicated to the rescue of abandoned and abused wolves and wolf-dog hybrids.  They do great work.  You can find out more about them at http://www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org/

The ambassadors will not be members of the new 'Westeros Pack,' since those wolves are still a bit too wild and unsocialized to mingle with the public in an uncontrolled environment.  They won't be direwolves either, alas, for the direwolves are all gone (for now).  But I think they are bringing Flurry, and he's almost direwolf sized, and a real charmer to boot.

We're expecting a huge turnout for Monday's marathon session.  The show starts at 7:00 pm, and the doors open at 6:00, but people will be lining up by early morning, if the past two weeks are any indication.  The Cocteau has only 125 seats, so not everyone will be able to get in... but Maisie and the wolves should both be arriving early, to meet some of the fans in the line.  So even if you are not one of the lucky 125 to get into the theatre, you may be able to say hi to Arya and a couple of members of her pack.

Oh, and this week we're screening episodes six, seven, and eight from season one -- "A Golden Crown," "You Win And You Die," and "The Pointy End."

See you at the cinema.

GRRM - You're the BEST!
So freaking fantastic to hear the magnificent line-up for Monday night! GRRM, you're the best! How excellent to have the rescue wolf Flurry as a guest of honor. With all my heart I'm wishing I could brave the crowds and be there for an epic star studded evening, to hug a wolf (and my favorite author too!) to tell Maisie what a brilliant actor she is. *sigh* I'm many leagues away and my honey has the flu. I smile, just the same, knowing it will happen... :) All the best to you and the lovely Parris, stay well.

Wish I could go. :)

Just curious, and cannot help but ask: will we get to find out more about what happened to Nymeria? I assume it was her who dragged Catelyn from the river.

Re: Nymeria
That would be telling.

arctic wolf
My girlfriend and I saw an arctic wolf in the threatre before the showing of Spinning Plates yesterday. The wolf was huge and white.

After the movie which was about food, we took a short walk to Joseph's and had a wonderful meal. A pleasant evening.

Wish I could stay for the marathon.

So Jealous
Okay living in Las Vegas is a drag. I need to move to New Mexico, it seems that is where all the awesome stuff happens, and I was just recently in NM visiting the wolves too. lol. I really wish I could be there for this.

Quick Question
Just wanted to say, massive fan, and I'm absolutely thrilled you're coming to London this summer! So the question:

If, during the con, a fan were to get into line to see you, and wanted to bring you a small token of appreciation for your amazing work: What is your soft drink of choice?

Re: Quick Question
Coke Zero... but really, it is not necessary.

Patchface getting creepier
I'm rereading ASoS and couldn't help but notice his new song - "Fool's blood, king's blood, blood in the maiden's thigh, but chains for the guests and chains for the bridegroom, aye aye aye." - I immediately thought of the Red Wedding (now that I know of the Red Wedding). We saw it on the HOTU, but how does Patchface know it? Could you explain that or is it too spoilery?

Re: Patchface getting creepier
I think that when he returned from the dead he had some sort of special sight; he has other songs that "make sense" in retrospect.

Getting in
Ah so excited for this opportunity but I worry that it automatically excludes so many people.

I should not harp I suppose. Being a New Mexican I have an advantage over pretty much everyone else. Having two young children though precludes me from lining up in the early am and spending the better part of (if not all) day away from them.

Thank you GRRM for this amazing series of events!

Re: Getting in
You should bring the two young children to one of our children's matinees. We have them once a month, Saturday at noon, and children under twelve are FREE (mommy and daddy have to pay).

This week's show is OLD YELLER. You just missed the noon show, but we will be running the film again at 4:15 today and 2:00 pm tomorrow.

Re: Getting in
That is in our plans! I had not thought about OLD YELLER though. Curious...

Thank you again for all you do.

Agghh! This is so cool, I love Maisie. Too bad I live in FL.

Unrelated, but I was wondering if you ever had any inkling of getting into the food industry? You obviously love food from your amazing concoctions in the books, and I've long been following the ladies over at Inn at the Crossroads.

My husband is a chef, and it's been a pipe-dream of mine to run an "authentic"-style middle-ages tavern serving roast meat and potato dishes and thick, hearty stews ...and beer, of course. I don't think it'll ever realistically happen with our current state of affairs, but I was just on reddit reading something about you and wondered if you had ever planned on- or had the notion of- adding on to your already numerous endeavors and doing something similar?

Cheers from a fellow food lover!

Much as I love good food... no, no plans to get into the food industry.

I did invest in a restaurant and microbrewery once, a ways back, and lost every nickle I put into it. Even though the food was great. It's just too chancy a business.

Chancy indeed, though most of the Failed In The First Year statistic is less chance than it is poor planning/ lack of discipline/ arrogance.

Keep it simple, keep it small, keep it good. Until it gets really popular. Then expand.

Thanks for the response. You really are the greatest!

George, I'm fleshing out my world in my book series I'm working on, and I have a question for you (and your readers) related to wolves:

What do you think of a 'sabrehound'?

Think of a wolf equal to sabre tooth tiger, or sabre cat. Please note that this species will primarily inhabit polar regions. My goal for finishing the first book (as sadly I am a 'part time' writer) will be when a little book called 'A Game of Thrones' turns 20.
