Aegon Is Coming...

 ... tomorrow morning.

We're putting up a sample from THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE on my website, to join the samples from the next Wild Cards book (LOWBALL) and of course from WINDS OF WINTER (Mercy).  It's a short excerpt from the section of Aegon's Conquest, complete with some kickass art.

And by the way, those of you who read only this Live Journal  -- and there are a lot of you -- should check out my actual website some time.  There's loads of interesting material there, from news stories to biography and bibliography and sections on my toy knights.

Anyway, do hope you all enjoy the Aegon piece.  It will be up on the morrow.

World of Ice and Fire?
I was just wondering whether you could answer this question. Will the First Long Night be covered in the World of Ice and Fire?

Your Homepage
I already spent a lot of time on visiting your homepage because there is so much interesting material. I especially enjoy the "What I´m reading" category-inspirational for getting to know new authors or/and books!

Re: Your Homepage
Sadly, I have not had time to update What I'm Reading for several years. One day, I hope... I have read some great stuff lately. The new Bernard Corwell THE PAGAN LORD and the new Joe Abercrombie HALF A KING top the list.

Speaking of Wildcards (hey, you did, tangentially, haha), is there an official release date for Lowball? The Wildcards sample on your site says coming Summer 2014, but Amazon lists a release date of Nov 4, 2014....but then again, Amazon doesn't even have the cover up, so I'm not sure how up to date that is.

Pretty pumped to dive into A WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE when it's released in October, a birthday gift I'll buy myself. Hoping it includes some mention of Ned Stark's mother, because I don't remember her ever being mentioned in the books.

To get back at all those fans who are hounding you to "finish the novels"; you should start writing more Haviland Tuf stories instead. That'll show 'em. :-)

Book Signing in Houston
It would be more than an honor but a dream come thru if you could make an appearance in my book signing event in Houston next year.

I know it is more than likely impossible but I would rather failed knowing I tried than fail without making the effort.

Here is my e-mail

Stay warm Winter is coming .

Kind Regards,

What? Navigate from LJ?! OK...

There is a quote on there (website) by you (imagine) that I love. It reminds me to write every day. Even if it's nonsense. Thank you. </p>

Looking forward to this!

I have just finished reading the Sample of the World of Ice and Fire and WOW! I think this book will give all the places in the Song of Ice and Fire- books a new meaning and that we will see them in different ways.
It is also a good starting point to re-read the 5 books while knowing all the prehistory. It was indeed a very good idea to write such a book Mr. Martin!

The Physics and Seasons of Ice and Fire
Hi George,

The link below is a really wonderful, recent video by a physicist at the university of Nottingham in the UK who speculates (and even presents some data) about the variability of the seasons in Westeros. If you haven't seen it already I think you'll get a kick out of it.

It seems I'm not allowed to post links here but if you search youtube for the title below it will the top link:-
"Why is Winter Coming (Game of Thrones) - Deep Sky Videos"

Best wishes,

your book reviews
Back in the day you used to post about some books you read recently and liked. I think the section is still up, but you have not updated it in years. I understand you are busy, but its very interesting to see what books authors enjoy.

Hi George
Great sample, as expected! A pitty it can't be longer.

One thing from the sample is giving us headaches, though. A quote about King Argilac implies that he joined the alliance against the tigers 20 years before killing King Garse. But Aegon and Balerion also supposedly fought Volantis, and it can't be 20 years ago because Aegon would be like 5 years old back then. Are we missing something?

[s]I just checked and it hasn't been posted yet[/s]. i found it eventually. I'm very excited for a sample of this. I was wondering if I should get it since I'm not sure how much of the writing comes from GRRM and how much are the collaborators work.

I was excited when I first heard about because I didn't know other people would be actually writing it. So I was a bit torn once I found out. I'm looking forward to Rogues though to find out more about Daemon the BAMF Targaryen. I'm eager to read the sample chapter so I can make up my mind about getting AWoIaF.

Thank you, this will be very helpful.
