Aegon Is Coming...

 ... tomorrow morning.

We're putting up a sample from THE WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE on my website, to join the samples from the next Wild Cards book (LOWBALL) and of course from WINDS OF WINTER (Mercy).  It's a short excerpt from the section of Aegon's Conquest, complete with some kickass art.

And by the way, those of you who read only this Live Journal  -- and there are a lot of you -- should check out my actual website some time.  There's loads of interesting material there, from news stories to biography and bibliography and sections on my toy knights.

Anyway, do hope you all enjoy the Aegon piece.  It will be up on the morrow.

Was Daenys the Dreamer
... the first rider of Balerion the Black Dread? With Drogon seemingly being a reincarnation of that ancient beast, it would only be fitting if the woman 'who started it all' - at least as far as the Targaryens in Westeros are concerned - were the first rider of the original Balerion...

And will we get more on the Targaryens on Dragonstone in the FIRE AND BLOOD history? The fact that only Balerion survived of the five Targaryen dragons from Valyria as well as the fact that there seem to be no Targaryen cadet branches in the male line when Aegon conquers Westeros hints at interesting stories involving Dragonstone in the century before the Conquest... A Dance of the Dragons 0.0? Some Targaryens dying with their dragons in wars with or against the Volantenes...?

An idea - question
Hi there,

an idea popped up in my head a moment ago and I just have to ask this question, no matter whether you answer it or not: have you ever thought about randomly attending people's weddings? And then like, you know, just silently stand there smiling. I bet it'd drive people crazy and they would panic and go nuts thinking what might happen :D It's just an idea though.

I just had to ask. And sorry for my English, it's not my native language.

George how do you feel about Chris Johnson signing for the jets, and do you think he can regain his old form?

Loncon 3
Hi, sorry for leaving this here but I have no idea how to contact you otherwise. I was just inquiring about your appearance at this year (2014) Worldcon in London. I would love to get my book signed as I'm a massive fan but I have no information on your appearance - dates wise. Much appreciated if anyone has any information on this so I can arrange everything. :))

Re: Loncon 3
I will be there for the entire con, though it will be some time before we know specific dates and times for my booksignings.

Great History Piece, George!
Thought it was really nice. Felt very much like a recounting of the Roman invasions of Gaul mixed with the feel of the Norman invasions of 1066.

Question -- most for pondering than for answering -- was Argilac's moniker of "The Arrogant" something the TARGARYENS dubbed him with rather than one he was really known by in his time by the First Men and Andals?

Reading, it feels to me that "Harren the Black" would have always been Harren the Black due to his deeds, and people called him that from The Wall to Dorne. The people of Westeros 100% called him that. But given the way the Aegon wound up acting, his actions seem just as "arrogant" as Argilac's. Maybe Argilac's side of the story was actually, though still self-interested, more reasonable, and subconsciously some in the Targaryen camp projected that term onto him which actually described their own behavior?

Arya Stark = Badass
Thank you for posting that little morsel for us... Loved the Mercy chapter!

Well, I read the sample and it was... AWESOME!!! But I have a question. At the begining you say that Aenar leaves Valyria with ALL his wives, so that say that valyrian people practised the polygamy. But, when you say that Aegon married both sisters you said that it was unusal. So then, it's usual or not the polygamy between the valyrian dragonlords?

Aegon is Coming
SOOOOO GOOOD!!!! I can't wait for this book to be released this October (and for the short story in June and of course for the rest of the books (2?!?) within the series of A Song of Ice and Fire. I am thinking you could (in your spare time) also create a college course on just the Targaryen Family line-I am officially obsessed with all of the past kings and queens. Don't mess with the Dragons at any point in time! Thanks for the sneak peak-made my Easter-but now I want more!!!

re: Now I do my J Carey like stuff, if you know what I mean.
I check out the Wiki of Fire & Ice all the time, so it will be nice to have a kick ass book with killer illustrations to straighten out all the dates & houses. I have nothing but admiration for E&L and the work they have done on the wiki.

I love your worlds and characters! You are an inspiration in so many ways. Recently you and HBO are taking a lot of grief for the "rape" scene. People just don't get it. We are in this age of narrow minded hyper sensitivity. There are few authors and their female characters who are as intriguing and strong as those in your books. Looking forward to the World of Ice and Fire, and the final two books of the series. I would like to recommend that you pitch Aegon's Conquest and Robert's Rebellion as potential prequel series. An in-depth story of Aegon conquering the Seven Kingdoms, ending with the forging of the Iron Throne...how epic. Younger Robert and Ned during a time of war, the enigma that is Raegar? What a fabulous series that would be!(I would prefer another seven books, but whatever!)
